If they manage to miss the playoffs after starting 5-1 it would top anything Romo has done previously in his career. My guess is they make the playoffs and then implode the first game. Quote

Frisco can't handle the Seahawks, and the Cowboys went into the northwest with the NFL's worst defense (on paper) and punched them in the mouth. The game wasn't even as close as the final score, without a muffed punt and another one blocked. It's NOT that the Cowboys are winning, I personally can't stand the f*cks. It's how they're doing it. Old school running the football. Protecting that God-awful defense, keeping the ball out of Romo's hands, and just old school smash mouth football. A solid running game settles everything down. The Seahawks knew it was coming late in the game, and could do nothing. Three number one picks on that O-line. If they continue with this game plan, this team is for real. Quote

Similar offensive style to the 90's era Cowboys. Dominant offensive line, a talented RB behind them and a QB who can find his tight end and his #1 WR when he has to. If they lose those games and win all the rest they finish 8-8. Last game is against the Redskins, they'd probably go in at 8-7 and who knows, a win and they're in situation. I mean it keeps happening every year. 3 consecutive 8-8 finishes, a 4th wouldn't be out of the question. Quote
KryptonKnights Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I know its hard for people to accept but this team is solid in every phase of the game except maybe special teams(some miscues on ST kept defending champs in a game they were getting owned by visiting opponent). And as far as special teams they have one of the best kickers in the league. They have the best offensive line in football, they have the best running back in the league, they have the best set of receivers outside of Denver and that defense that was supposed to be the worst in the league.....WOW. They are an aggressive and competent unit. Dallas is the best team in the NFC East by a huge margin and they have shown they are in the discussion about the best team in the NFL. They dismantled the defending champions at what was considered an impossible home venue for opponents. Quote

Yeah I almost went back and edited, but just said WTF... Basically I meant, keeping the ball out of Romo's hand 50 times a game. This team can't win when he throws the ball 50 times and you know it. Your points of course are right on money, though his decision to call that time out late in the game was mind blowing. At that point keeping the clock moving, even for an extra 2-3 seconds, was critical. That pass he threw to Williams was Romo at his best. Not a fan of the Boys, but a big fan of the style of football they are playing. Looks like they have finally figured it out. Big issue still is Murray with 30 plus touches. They've got to scheme a way to get Randle and Dunbar more involved without disrupting offensive flow. Murray is an absolute horse (reminds me of a more physical Eric Dickerson but without the raw speed), but he'll buckle under this load come playoff time. Quote

Their success on 3rd down has allowed the running game to flourish, and they have opposing defenses on their heels. They're running out of the shotgun, running pure draws... this in turn makes Romo lethal in the play action, and when he moves the pocket to extend plays. Most importantly they are controlling time of possession. This settles down what still is a bad defense on paper, protects it by keeping it on the sidelines. Their kicking game is lights out, though there's been glitches on special teams. But I'd assert it's more of a commitment by the coaches to play to their strength, and run the football, than it is a case of the rest of the team finally carrying the weight. Quote

Once Lee comes back those 2 are going to be something to watch. I guess you have to credit Rod Marineli for all of this - he is proving to be a genius. I have been begging for years for Jerry to build this team from the inside out. To address the offensive line and go from there. One of the long standing Achilles heel of this team has been the running qb - they've always managed to kill us. The one troubling thing is...the dude has coughed the ball up in every single game. Yesterday when he was running to the sidelines, the ball literally just popped out his hands and went airborne. No contact whatsoever. It'd be a shame for a guy that literally is in contention for MVP to lose a playoff game due to one untimely fumble. As for Romo...I make fun of him as much as most, but he has made some ballsy clutch throws this year. That throw on 3rd and 20 was clutch.
