HenryHill9323 65 Posted December 10, 2014 Iran released our hostages. Saddam's army treated US POWs well. Now, Al Qaeda turned on us after the Gulf War. They killed Americans in their terrorist strikes, now maybe I'm wrong, but I don't rightly recall them ever taking hostages so as to have any to behead before Nekked Twister. This beheading stuff is -I think- of more recent vintage. And they didn't need the report to know what happened, they already knew. This is more to clear the air, admit culpability. Try to salvage what's left of our credibility by admitting we focked up, making it harder for the next batch of Bushtards to think twice about doing it again without a massive backlash. It's better to air the laundry than cover it up. It's not like we were fooling anybody. As for Bush. He richly deserves being hung out to dry for this. What a human pile of excrament he is. I'm sure this will make them love us.
Voltaire 5,491 Posted December 10, 2014 Why no prosecutions? if this was so bad shouldn't someone be held accountable?I just restyle everything I write a bunch of times... That's just not how we do things in the US. When one party loses the presidency, they hand over control willingly. The incoming party accepts control gracefully and doesn't persecute the other side. This happens Even though most of the time, both sides can't stand the other party. It's one of the strengths of our system. For how richly Team Bushtard deserves jail, this isn't a can of worms Obummer wanted to open. These transitions have to be smooth. If you start tossing the other side in prison, retribution happens, someday soon you get a Constitutional crisis when some lunkhead loses an election and refuses to hand over power. Voltaire 5,491 Posted December 10, 2014 I'm sure this will make them love us. It just has to make them hate us a little less. But it'll have to be combined with another dozen things that make them hate us a little less before any improvement can be detected.

MDC 7,889 Posted December 10, 2014 So RP and Dumbeskina spend all morning accusing the report authors of being biased, defending the use of torture, blaming Ibummer for releasing the report in the first place and basically going full spittle spraying retard in between womanly sobs of fake outrage. I haven't been this shocked since the last M Night Shymalan movie.

I haven't been this shocked since the last M Night Shymalan movie. As this country shows outrage over the torture techniques of slapping, punching, cold showers, sleep deprivation, ect. the rest of the world is laughing its butt off at America because we are a bunch of clueless Morons. We are currently a country that does not have the stomach to defend itself and the rest of the world knows this. Worse yet we have an Administration that has no desire to defend our country.
IGotWorms 4,063 Posted December 10, 2014 I've got a different spin than you and Shonuff. In and of themselves, I don't care about these guys being tortured any more than RP or drobeski do. At the individual level, fock them. It's much bigger than this, for reasons I've outlined at least twice. The blowback we get for this is enormous. That is definitely a good practical concern. I'd also add that it severely undermines our status as some kind of force for good in the world. Next time we're before the UN decrying some human rights abuses everybody's going to be thinking "wait a minute, you guys torture people." So there are a number of reasons why this is a travesty. IMO the worst result is the betrayal of our principles but the practical considerations are enormous too as you point out

There are no core principles binding us together as a country any longer. All principles will be betrayed for political expediency and the illusion of safety

This might be the most BS thing ever said. So you think we need to slap the crap out of people and torture them to let the world know we mean business? IGotWorms 4,063 Posted December 10, 2014 +1 There's always been those people. The innerwebs now brings their dumbassery to everyone. It's not just the Internet though. I'd venture a guess you will hear very similar stuff on talk radio, Fox News, etc. It's just sad that even a topic so black and white as torture has to become a disgusting partisan squabble
MDC 7,889 Posted December 10, 2014 These tactics have always been around. We just didn't have to talk about them publicly so dumbasses can feel better about themselves. To believe otherwise is naive. The difference is that they weren't official policy so interrogators would use them in extreme scenarios, not US policy carries out as a routine part of interrogations with the government's endorsement. KSB2424 3,173 Posted December 10, 2014 then why release it ? This would be my only question really. I'm against "tourture" as well, America should be above it. And if this report deems that what we've been doing is crossing that line from interrogation to "tourture" then that needs to be changed going forward. 100% agree. Whether that be new protocols in place for whomever is in this business. CIA / Military / etc. However I am torn over whether it needed to be released for the world to see. On one hand I am generally for transparency, but I feel there are limits on that as well. Sometimes its just not a good idea to air your dirty laundry. Sometimes its better for the player and the coach to work things out and keep it in the locker room, as opposed to airing it all out on Sportscenter. Cause when you do, just ask RGIII, it blows up worse.
Baker Boy 1,710 Posted December 10, 2014 i find it very interesting that they released this report on the day Jonathan Gruber testified before congress. Can someone please tell me how releasing this report helps our country?
HenryHill9323 65 Posted December 10, 2014 Apparently, DiFi got her depends in a twist because she was being investigated for leaks coming from her committee, and she released this as retribution. Putting Americam lives at risk is a small price to pay so that some political hack can throw a temper tantrum.
