tanatastic 2,062 Posted October 20, 2015 So are you saying that because you think the current wars are about oil that the sacrifices at say, Normandy, don't deserve your respect/gratitude? I believe in only one type of war. Big open field, one army faces another army. Whichever side has a man alive at the end is the winner. Like in Braveheart. Thats it. Cruzer 1,995 Posted October 21, 2015 I'm totally cool with the Star Spangled Banner before each game.... But do we really need to also sing God Bless America in the 7th inning of a game too? I mean we don't do it at the start of the 3rd quarter in a football game - so wtf?

I stopped paying attention to GBA a while ago. It requires no reverence.

However, baseball was Americas favorite pastime so I guess they wanted it to be more patriotic by doing that. That's my best guess
Mungwater 597 Posted October 21, 2015 I can agree with that. However, baseball was Americas favorite pastime so I guess they wanted it to be more patriotic by doing that. That's my best guess They didn't do it regularly until after 9/11. Neat sentiment for the season, but seems crazy to do it every game

Kanil 520 Posted October 21, 2015 At some point WW2 has to stop being used as justification for our Military and foreign policy blunders. The smell of success from that great endeavor can only cover up the stink since then for so long. I see. So are you saying we should NOT be thankful for those sacrifices because they were so long ago?
BunnysBastatrds 2,450 Posted October 21, 2015 I'm all for the Star Spangled Banner sung before games. It's a sign of respect and I enjoy signing it. But I can do without God Bless America. I'm a member of an organization that is over a hundred years old and it has some very old and odd traditions. One is signing God Bless America at the end of the meeting. It's mostly a bunch of forty to fifty something white guys, a few young guys, and a few chunkyfat wemens. The older guys are really serious when they sing it but the rest of us half halfheartedly sing it and a stare at our shoes. Very awkward signing it in a small room with twenty people. nzoner 937 Posted October 21, 2015 I'm all for keeping it and while I agree it's really up to others what they do during the anthem I personally would like to slap them if they're not showing respect.

But I also want to smack the people who tell others to stand up or take their hats off for God Bless America. What about people who sit down at the dinner table wearing a hat?
