Well, considering that he thought it was caught, it is somewhat understandable.

It was a line drive that went off of Joe Crede's glove. Because it was a line drive that both Crede and Casey thought was caught, Casey was on his way back to the bench... Then after realizing that the ball went into left field, he started to first only to be beaten by the throw...

He stopped, it wasnt because he was slow. He makes it with time to have lunch if he keeps running.

maybe 10 people in the last 15 years would have been out on that.

 

Once he realized he needed to "hustle" he was running in molasses. Laughable how slow he is.
