Here's what actually happened.  There was a lot of corruption in the police department, but it was mostly the hire up's and a few bad apples on the force.  When they "defunded the police", they just got rid of those bad apples.  They "rebranded" and they're not just called "Camden County Police".  Of which, it's about 97% of the original force.  But, what did take place was that a decent chunk of the white population moved out.  The net result was a massive depreciation in property value.  Because of that, Rutgers started buying up "the hood" and expanding their satellite campus and reducing the problem element.  With all the inflation going on over the last year and a half, the value of properties in Camden are only a pennies higher than they were in 2010 before all that crap went down.  You know what's not talked about?  Camden hasn't had a non-black Mayor since 2000.  The "corrupt higher up's" were appointed by Gwen Faison, who was the first black female mayor of the city.  Camden has also been a Democrat stronghold since the 1930's.  They haven't had a white mayor since the 60's.

I grew up in Camden County and my mom worked at Rutgers-Camden.   I haven’t followed it since I moved away ~15 years ago, but they absolutely had a run of years of being the “murder capital” of the country.

Edit:  I’d also be curious to see some data behind the claim that property values are only “pennies” higher than 2010.  Looking at this, values are over double just since 2017 - https://www.redfin.com/city/2570/NJ/Camden/housing-market

And Camden has NEVER had much of a white population.

I never said they weren't the murder capital.  Nice straw man I guess.  Another nice straw man, I never said that Camden had a lot of white people.  Dropping for #1 to #25 isn't really an accomplishment in saying "see, defunding the police works".  It actually proves that defunding the police doesn't work because they're still one of the worst in the country.  You can banter about with whatever you want on it, but I live near by and worked in the county (Blackwood).  I've lived here since I was 12.  I have patients and clients who live and work in the area.  I know exactly what's going on in the town.

I dunno, going from worst to 25th worst seems like progress to me…

And pretty sure they didn’t really “defund” the police.  They disbanded it, de-unionized and recreated it.  Here’s a Fox News article even.  Murder rate declined more than 70% from 2013 to 2020.

https://www.foxnews.com/media/lawrence-jones-camden-police-department-defund-police-movement

I went to school in Blackwood…

I also see you didn’t address my real estate values question.  Going to admit you were wrong?

So if you beat your kids 20 times a year, and are voted the worst parent in the country, then the next year 24 other parents beat their kids 40 times a year while you still "only" beat your kids 20 times per year, you consider that "progress"?

You need to read better, then tell Obama, Liberals, and BLM that they didn't defund the police.  See, because I sarcastically said that they "defunded the police".  I said what you did.  I said they got rid of the few bad apples is all that they did.  The bad apples put in place by Democrat mayors... minorities at that.

Oh, and that was my bad, the numbers I saw were comparing 2010 to 2020.  Thank goodness we had Biden's inflation, huh?

So you agree with me that what they did with the police wasn’t a bad thing because now you admit there wasn’t a “massive depreciation of property values” like you originally claimed? Home prices were still going up prior to 2020 btw.

No matter how many people are killed, Liberals will never admit they were wrong.  They would rather see people die then ever admit they are wrong.

The Camden waterfront is pretty nice. Outside of that one area it’s basically shantytown.

Yeah, still is.  Liberals creating a crappy area and minorities are apparently ok with blaming republican for their problems even when none exist... because they hear what they want to hear, from Democrats.  It's RACISM!!!

No.  Here’s a quick summary.  You laughed at Camden “defunding the police” and sarcastically said it “must be going well” because they had the 24th highest murder rate.  I simply correctly pointed out that since they used to be the worst, they have actually made progress.  Eventually you admitted you were wrong and agreed that what they did with the police was a good thing as they got rid of the bad apples.  Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Not really. Depends how it’s applied . You don’t understand percentages. And that’s a shame seeing as you went to college.

At number 14 of the top 100 most dangerous cities in the country, Camden has a Violent Crime Rate of 16.5 per 1,000 residents. In plain talk, that means your chance of being a victim of a violent crime in Camden is a frightening 1 in 61.Mar 8, 2022
