BuschWack 56 Posted September 28, 2016 One knucklehead mentoring another. IMO.. for an Owner in need of TE, worth picking up in a deep league. The Jets, Kellen Davis hasn't caught a pass yet this year. From ESPN Article: When the star wide receiver learned Seferian-Jenkins was arrested for DUI last Friday, resulting in his release from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he called immediately -- before the Jets claimed him on waivers. "We've been talking for a while. He's a great talent," Marshall told reporters Tuesday at a charity event in Manhattan. "When I heard [Monday] we claimed him, I was like, 'This is God-sent.' If he needs me, I'm there. I've already connected him with the right people in the city if he needs them."

BuschWack 56 Posted September 28, 2016 ASJ is listed as the 1 TE on Roto. I'm buying. Marshall will personally see to his success and demand that Fitz gives him targets. Positive thinking from a Dwayne Allen owner looking to replace.
brotherbock 349 Posted September 28, 2016 Huh. I actually think Marshall is a thoughtful, perceptive guy. He's got psychological issues, and is mature enough to recognize and confront them. That's the sort of mentor that's often most effective. Just added ASJ to my watch list.

ASJ could really turn a corner with Marshall's help.

Kent 228 Posted September 29, 2016 Is he having particular trouble right now? He doesn't have a cold. He's got legitimate mental issues. He will live one day at a time dealing with it until he dies. Not to mention he's taking blows to the head weekly. Trust me, Brandon needs to worry about Brandon.

I know from mental health issues, and having something like borderline personality disorder doesn't prevent you from interacting with other human beings. I asked if he was having particular problems because someone with his issues can go through tougher periods, like bipolarity. But when he's not struggling relative to the rest of the time, there's absolutely no reason he can't he helping other people with their problems. It's just a mental health issue, he's not completely crippled intellectually.

Ray_T 603 Posted September 29, 2016 He might be a good buy, but it will be at least a couple of weeks til he knows enough of the playbook. So unless you can afford a dead spot on the roster for 3 weeks or more, My suggestion is to leave him on the wire for a couple of weeks, and when his targets and/or catch percentage start to rise, then pick him up at that time. The good news here is I dont think anyone will pick him up this week anyhow.
brotherbock 349 Posted September 29, 2016 I'm not saying he can't interact, but to suggest he's gonna shepherd ASJ through his mental issues is crazy. It's crazy to think someone who has struggled with personal and mental issues might be able to help someone else who might be struggling with them? All the folks in AA and similar support groups would like to disagree with that.

Are you just going by a generalized belief that "crazy can't help crazy"? Of course they can. This is an inane statement.

No, but we are talking about Brandon Marshall. A young kid with real mental health issues recently. He's the last guy id want trying to help others with issues right now. Maybe when he retires from taking head trauma on Sundays. Maybe.

He's the last guy id want trying to help others with issues right now. Maybe when he retires from taking head trauma on Sundays. Maybe. Brandon Marshall is a 32 year old man who was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder five years ago. I get what you're saying; I just don't think it applies in this case. brotherbock 349 Posted September 29, 2016 I know the AA program. I have friends in it who also sponsor people. Brandon isn't in AA. That's why i said 'similar support groups'. If you're going to misread what I'm saying intentionally, I don't have time for you. No one is saying he's an alcoholic. The claim is that people who suffer from a condition, mental conditions in particular, are often best suited to help others with that condition. You're treating people with mental diseases like they are incapable, like infants. That's ignorant.

I'm treating Brandon Marshall like that because he's still taking head trauma on the weekly. 9 out of 10 doctors don't recommend persistent head trauma for those with mental issues. 10 out of 10 don't recommend those guys for support duties. Maybe when he retires. Maybe.
brotherbock 349 Posted September 29, 2016 N 10 out of 10 don't recommend those guys for support duties. Is there a citation for that? Not being facetious, it's an area I try to keep up on. If that's coming from actual data, surveys of mental health professionals, that would be interesting to me.

brotherbock 349 Posted September 29, 2016 No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night so... LOL. Nice. Seriously, I'm not trying to be a d1ck, I just have a lot of friends who have to deal with those sort of issues. Treating them like they can't possibly help others because they are "so troubled" just isn't accurate for most of them. Some can't help, sure, and many of them can't help some of the time. But not most of them most of the time. Not if they're dealing with the problem. Peace.
