** Round One/Two Commentary - June Mock 2017 **

Recommended Posts

First unorthodox pick of the draft. Taking Thomas ahead of a couple of more established WRs should make for some interesting discussion moving forward.

My mom says Michael Thomas is going to be neato this year so I mean, I guess you could say things are getting pretty serious...

I can reach Jeff easily when needed.

And Jeff and I live in the same town, population 947 people, go figure! So I could rattle his chain also if you need it done!

I am somewhat surprised that the picks so far have basically followed what the "experts" have stated for 2017. I can see the first 6 picks are in reverse order from 2016.....and I don't see much has changed in FF in the one year. I still believe that while the top 3 running backs do separate themselves, that the WRs are still the elite pick and less risk of injury.

I know it is a strategy.......but I am leery of the experts picks of RB in the top 3 this year. Guess we shall see.

i do have a lot of thoughts on the whole RB vs. WR idea and why I would much rather go RB in round 1 this year. Naturally, BPA is going to come into play but at the same time, I see enough 1st round RBs I like and so much WR depth that if im in any position to get one of those top 3 RBs in the first, i'm doing it without hesitation. Gordon would probably be next on my list followed by Shady. Am I going to pass on certain receivers for those 2? Maybe not, but I would certainly take them right around where they were picked. WRs are less injury prone but such a deeper position and I think most leagues still require 2 starting RB's. If you can separate yourself at that position by having at least 1 stud.....

As for the "exert" consensus. We ARE the experts ;) . Joking aside, those top 5 players did nothing last year to signal a dropoff and Bell doesn't come with that suspension discount (got him at the 1.12/2.1 turn in my main league last season)

I am a little surprised to see Thomas taken at #10, but if your gut is sold on him you have to do it. Not sure that "risk" is the best place to take in round one, but I get it.

I think AJ Green represents good value at 1.11, cannot complain about having that potential production at this stage of round 1. Keeping in mind that Green needs the world around him to align well in order to get his touches.....

I am a little skittish about both McCoy and Gordon this year as round one picks. I was certainly all in on them last year where they were falling way too far, but I am not sure they are legit first rounders this year; I have some concerns that they do not hold up to that value.

I'm going with my gut here tbh. Green was the consensus next pick, but I like Brees and the Saints more than Dalton and the Bengals.

No Cooks and the offense runs through Drew's arm.

The kid went off his rookie year, and his route tree was somewhat limited.

HUGE 2017 in store....

Thomas wasn't who I was thinking of but I do like it.

regarding Mike Evans earlier, he did not outscore Brown in PPR even with Brown playing 1 less game. Brown also scored the same amount of TDs in 1 less game and averaged more in standard on a per game basis. I certainly see the upside and I certainly like him myself, but I don't realistically see him going before Brown and Julio simply based on the offenses/teams/QB's involved. I don't like Beckham but I think he will fit that same description

regarding Thomas, with other players out of the picture, Thomas is going to be a trendy pick flying up boards as the summer goes along.

we all know the players but its been common practice in these mocks to not mention names that have not been drafted,

he outscored him in this format, by 2.7 pts. Missing a game doesn't change the fact.

I sent Guido over to Jeff's house to tell him he is OTC so he can give Ray time to make his next selection before he packs it in out East!

it doesn't change THAT fact but it doesn't change my reasoning. I like to go by points per game because thats the indicator to use when a player suits up, not when their team sits them in week 17.

but again, as I was more or less trying to say, Evans certainly performed well enough to be considered the top WR off the board if one so desired. I just don't think you're going to see it happen

Pretty early for Cooper. I guess JScott thinks he'll take a big leap forward with Carr coming into his own.

That was predicted last year for Cooper also.

All I mentioned was he was My #1 wr in this format. That doesn't mean you need to agree. ;)

thats what the discussion is for!

id be interested to see the rosters of past no hassle champs and see who their RB's were. I know I won a few years back (might have been the year I drafted Peterson in the 12 spot after his injury)... but I feel like the no management aspect of the no hassle lends itself towards top RB's. I could be completely wrong and I know we don't technically draft with the league in mind (but we probably do) but a typical redraft allows you to take some shots on committee guys or high upside backups and if they dont pan out, you can drop them and add the next flavor of the week. When you don't have that luxury, injuries or whiffing on speculative backs might completely cripple you at the position.

.....and ray vanishes

Then per the Rules, he either gets skipped or someone picks for him, correct?

Easy guys...it's only been a few since JScott picked...Ray is probably mulling over his options.

Here's last year's winning team:

ICEMAN:

1.12- WR Dez Bryant, Dal.

2.01- WR Jordy Nelson, GB

3.12- RB DeMarco Murray, Ten.

4.01- WR T.Y. Hilton, Ind.

5.12- QB Drew Brees, NO

6.01- RB Jonathan Stewart, Car.

7.12- RB Giovani Bernard, Cin.

8.01- QB Tom Brady, NE

9.12- RB Derrick Henry, Ten.

10.01- TE Antonio Gates, SD

11.12- RB Charles Sims, TB

12.01- TE Zach Miller, Chi.

13.12- WR Chris Hogan, NE

14.01- K Graham Gano, Car.

15.12- WR Michael Thomas, NO

16.01- D/ST, Kansas City Chiefs

So many good picks here, but having Brees AND Brady really catapulted this team.

I'm back.

I think there's a top 6 picks. Then you're into the riskier RBs and second tier of WRs. I'm happy with Gordon at number 9. Woodhead's gone, and the RB depth behind Gordon is dubious at best.

yes, that would likely not support my theory but getting a guy like Thomas in the 15th can take care of just about any issues :D

Hitting on DeMarco (guess ill name drop since the roster is posted hahaha) was certainly key though.

LeSean McCoy ran for 5.4 yards per carry last season.

Melvin Gordon has been under 4 yards per carry both of his NFL seasons. I don't think Gordon is as bad as he was in Year One, nor as good as he was in Year Two fantasy-wise. I think his ceiling is much lower than Shady's. Hence, the selection of McCoy.

Not complaining as much as wondering how he was here ....present for atleast 15 minutes after jScott picked.... then he vanishes??

I'll agree he has a bigger upside than Gordon, even more so in a PPR league. He also is a fairly large injury risk, and I think the backup in Buffalo (no name dropping) is more talented than the one in LA.

a good example would be me leaving the FFT page open on my phone browser. Probably makes it look like im always here even if im not technically. As for vanishing not sure. closed the entire browser?

I feel Gordon carries the higher upside, as he got a taste of what he could do last year. I have McCoy rated ahead of him but feel he comes with more risk even though he is on a run first offense. Howard is right there just below Gordon on a horrible team that is getting worse this year.

He's also good at mailing it in for the day a 3:01 Eastern time, so that does concern me. He is pretty though!

just sayin

It's pretty predictable

I believe it goes by last click. 20 or 30 minutes after the last time you opened a page, you disappear.
