Voltaire 5,202 Posted July 6, 2018 Ah. new page... more updates... I gotta say this, daily time tax is wearing on me. It's why it took me so long to want to do this after the World History draft. But the light is at the end of the tunnel ... 126 rounds and we're approaching 100. On the plus side, I remembered that great pick I'd wanted to assign 90sbaby last time and I also came up with a second winner too.

ZeroTolerance 584 Posted July 6, 2018 93.5 - T.S. Eliot - Fiction Writer Thomas Stearns Eliot, OM (26 September 1888 – 4 January 1965), was an essayist, publisher, playwright, literary and social critic, and "one of the twentieth century's major poets". Born in St. Louis, in the United States, he moved to England in 1914 at the age of 25, settling, working, and marrying there. He eventually became a British subject in 1927 at the age of 39, renouncing his American passport. Eliot attracted widespread attention for his poem "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" (1915), which was seen as a masterpiece of the Modernist movement. It was followed by some of the best-known poems in the English language, including The Waste Land (1922), "The Hollow Men" (1925), "Ash Wednesday" (1930), and Four Quartets (1943). He was also known for his seven plays, particularly Murder in the Cathedral (1935) and The Cocktail Party (1949). He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948, "for his outstanding, pioneer contribution to present-day poetry". 94.5 - Raymond Spruance - Admiral Raymond Ames Spruance (July 3, 1886 – December 13, 1969) was a United States Navy admiral in World War II. He commanded U.S. naval forces during two of the most significant naval battles that took place in the Pacific Theatre: the Battle of Midway and the Battle of the Philippine Sea. At Midway, Spruance scored the first major victory for the United States over Japan; most historians consider Midway the turning point of the Pacific War. Official Navy historian Samuel Eliot Morison characterized Spruance's performance as "superb", and said that he "emerged from this battle one of the greatest admirals in American naval history". Spruance was nicknamed "electric brain" for his calmness even in moments of supreme crisis, a reputation enhanced by his successful tactics at Midway. After the war, Spruance was appointed President of the Naval War College, and later served as American ambassador to the Philippines.

Voltaire 5,202 Posted July 6, 2018 Nice pick with TS Elliott, I'd not known that he was an American citizen. I think of poor RHR and early in the draft, he didn't like when Albert Einstein was drafted, considering his most important life's work had been done before he'd become a US citizen. Then he mostly was fine with it all, until I came along and really blew him up when I picked Sun Yat Sen. I wouldn't be surprised if TS Elliott grinds him too. I'd said at the time I took Sun that I had another tangential, barely qualifies person that I was considering, he's still out there. Considering the sh*t that was rained on me for taking Edison at #1 overall, one of the consolations of that was that I would also get Mr. Irrelevant and that was when I was going to draft that guy. But now, with our draft order change, in addition to the scariness of going 24 names between picks, I've also lost control of Mr. Irrelevant so I'm not too pleased about that. 5-Points 3,389 Posted July 6, 2018 93.8 William Levitt - Designer/Engineer William Jaird Levitt (February 11, 1907 – January 28, 1994) was an American real-estate developer. In his position as president of Levitt & Sons, he is widely credited as the father of modern American suburbia. He was named one of Time Magazine's "100 Most Influential People of the 20th Century. 94.8 Elisha Otis - Inventor Elisha Graves Otis (August 3, 1811 – April 8, 1861) was an American industrialist, founder of the Otis Elevator Company[1], and inventor of a safety device that prevents elevatorsfrom falling if the hoisting cable fails..... The safety locking mechanism had worked, and people gained greater willingness to ride in traction elevators; these elevators quickly became the type in most common usage and helped make present-day skyscrapers possible. One helped build up the other helped build out. 95.1 Stu Grimson - Hockey Stuart Grimson (born May 20, 1965) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player. Grimson played in the National Hockey League from 1989 to 2002. During this time, he played for the Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Detroit Red Wings, Hartford Whalers/Carolina Hurricanes, Los Angeles Kings, and Nashville Predators. Grimson was known as an enforcer, with over 2,000 penalty minutes in his career. His stature, his reputation as a fighter, and a play on his surname combined to earn him the nickname "The Grim Reaper". 96.1 Randy Couture - Athlete/Other Randall Duane Couture (/koʊˈtʊər/; born June 22, 1963) is an American actor, former United States Army Sergeant, retired mixed martial artist and former collegiate and Greco-Roman wrestler. During his tenures in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Couture became a three-time UFC Heavyweight Champion, two-time UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, an interim UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and the UFC 13 Heavyweight Tournament winner.[2] Couture is the first of only four fighters to hold two UFC championship titles in two different divisions (along with REDACTED Conor McGregor and Georges St. Pierre). Couture has competed in a record 16 title fights. He holds the record for the most wins in UFC Heavyweight Championship bouts (6). He holds the most title reigns in the UFC with six. His last fight with Lyoto Machida marked his 24th fight in the UFC, the tenth largest number of fights in the UFC (Michael Bisping,REDACTED and REDACTED are tied for first with 27). Couture is the fourth member of the UFC Hall of Fame. He is the only person over the age of 40 to have won a UFC championship fight, having done so four times. Couture has also been one of the few MMA champions to have recovered a title he had previously lost, and is the only fighter to have achieved it three times (twice at heavyweight, once at light heavyweight). Couture was an Olympic wrestling alternate and has lived in Corvallis, Oregon throughout much of his career, where he served as an assistant wrestling coach and a strength and conditioning coach for Oregon State University.[3] He established Team Quest with Matt Lindland and Dan Henderson, a training camp for fighters, based out of Gresham, Oregon, and headed by coach Robert Folis. In 2005, Couture moved to Las Vegas, where he opened his own extensive chain of gyms under the name Xtreme Couture. Couture partnered with Bas Rutten to open Legends Gym in Hollywood, California. Couture is generally recognized as a clinch and ground-and-pound fighter who uses his wrestling ability to execute take downs, establish top position and successively strike the opponent on the bottom. Couture has displayed a variety of skills in boxing and catch wrestling. Couture is the only athlete in UFC history to win a championship after becoming a Hall of Fame member and is the oldest title holder ever in the UFC and MMA. Voltaire 5,202 Posted July 6, 2018 Stu was a fun player to watch. You'd think a guy gets punch drunk after taking all the abuse and shots to the head he took. The NFL is looking down the legal barrel of research showing that 99% of their ex-players brains have CTE. Then there's Stu Grimson who gets in a fight every third game for thirteen+ years and then goes on to get a law degree after he retires.

RaiderHaters Revenge 4,237 Posted July 6, 2018 Doesn't matter but I thought we were getting rid of the snake and all picking two in order instead of 5 and V getting 4 picks at the turns. No big deal I guess but that was what was proposed. Starting in round 91 or 92. yah thats what I thought, but I think this is actually better and quicker, right now we are just filling in our groups, I haven't had a person selected in like 10 rounds that I would have taken
Voltaire 5,202 Posted July 6, 2018 As s hockey purist I hate these picks. Not even happy with 99 being an "American hockey player". Total BS. I know. The hockey category is focked. When Gretzky got picked, everything got screwed over as he played internationally for Canada and got US citizenship whenever. Rinse-repeat with Lemieux and Sawchuck and now Stu. Even though all four got duel US citizenship at some point, none of them did a damn thing for USA hockey. I should have saw that one coming. It's something I would change if I could. 5-Points 3,389 Posted July 6, 2018 I can change the Grimson pick if it's that big a deal. I wanted a goon. He was a goon and is a U.S. citizen. Also, I thought I was only picking 2 but ZT said I was on deck with 4 picks and I looked at the list and, sure enough, my name was up there 4 times in a row. So I filled the slots. Bob Probert is from Windsor, the house he grew up in is almost surely closer to Joe Louis Arena than mine is. Meanwhile, Tie Domi is from my dad's hometown, in Belle River, Ontario. To me these are local guys, Windsor is like a Detroit suburb with fully naked tittie bars and alcohol served to 18-21. Canadian sure, but it's all the same focking thing mostly in our minds. My brother, like many Detroit kids, was in Canada very frequently when he was under 21. Not me, but I was getting the same effect anyways since I was in Germany then, for four months, running around the desert next to a tank. Originally, the city of Detroit was on both sides of the river. The war of 1812 split Detroit in two, a US side and a Canadian side. Windsor got lucky, they never had to endure twenty years of Coleman Young (62.8 Fail) as mayor.

Canada is south of Detroit, it's a geographic quirk).

RaiderHaters Revenge 4,237 Posted July 7, 2018 96.7 Joshua Abraham Norton - Fail Joshua Abraham Norton (February 4, 1818[3] – January 8, 1880), known as Emperor Norton I, was a citizen of San Francisco, California, who in 1859 proclaimed himself "Norton I, Emperor of the United States". He later assumed the secondary title of "Protector of Mexico".[4] Born in England, Norton spent most of his early life in South Africa. After the death of his mother in 1846 and his father in 1848, he sailed west, arriving in San Francisco possibly in November 1849.[5] Norton initially made a living as a businessman, but he lost his fortune investing in Peruvian rice.[6] Due to a Chinese rice shortage, Norton bought rice at 12 cents per pound from Peruvian ships. However, more Peruvian ships arrived in port which sharply caused the rice price to drop from 12 cents to 4 cents. [7] After he lost a lawsuit in which he tried to void his rice contract, Norton's public prominence faded. He reemerged in September 1859, laying claim to the position of Emperor of the United States.[8] He had no formal political power; nevertheless, he was treated deferentially in San Francisco, and currency issued in his name was honored in the establishments he frequented. Though some considered him insane or eccentric,[9] citizens of San Francisco celebrated his regal presence and his proclamations, such as his order that the United States Congress be dissolved by force and his numerous decrees calling for a bridge connecting San Francisco to Oakland, and a corresponding tunnel to be built under San Francisco Bay. On January 8, 1880, Norton collapsed at the corner of California and Dupont (now Grant) streets and died before he could be given medical treatment. Upwards of 10,000 people lined the streets of San Francisco to pay him homage at his funeral.[10]:21[11]
