MLB 2019 Season Awards...

Recommended Posts

For those that care, the MLB awards will be handed out in mid-November...

Before the final three are revealed in each category, and before the post-season starts, I wanted to offer up my predictions for the awards (not that anyone else cares...)

----

Rookie of the Year
NL: Pete Alonso
AL: Yordan Alvarez

Manager of the Year
NL: Craig Counsell
AL: Rocco Baldelli

Cy Young
NL: Jacob deGrom
AL: Gerrit Cole

Most Valuable Player
NL: Anthony Rendon
AL: Mike Trout

Boone has to get AL manager. But he won't , because jealousy.

You need to take off your homer glasses...  Yes the Yankees had a lot of injuries, but a rookie manager taking a team from 78 wins to 101 is a lock for manager of the year...

A lot? How about 30 players on the IL? That's more than a lot. No homer here. Twins were on cruise control this year. Make sure the lineup card is filled out. And worst to first isn't a big thing anymore.

why Cole and not Verlander?

Trout? He may be the best player in the game but not sure he's the most valuable.  I don't think the MVP will come from a 72 win team.

I bounced back-and-forth between Verlander and Cole...  I went with Cole because of the strikeouts...  He pitched less innings and still won 20 games and had a better ERA...  Though I wouldn't be upset with Verlander winning either (which he will probably get it because of the no-hitter and reaching the 3000 strikeout club)...

As for Trout, wins don't matter any more...  He won the MVP in 2016 on a 74 win team...

Do you think voters will have an issue with Trout missing so much time this year?

Not really...  Other than a couple of games here and there throughout the season, it was the last 19 games in September, where the Angels went 5-14...

He played in 134, so he missed 28 games, but up until September, it was game here and there and 4-5 games in one week in April...

Another reason that I took Cole over Verlander was that Cole won AL pitcher of month three times while Verlander won none...  That is tough to overlook as well IMO...

It’s ridiculous that Pete was not unanimous.

True.  Soroka had a great season but nothing like Alonso.

No issue with Shildt being NL Manager of the Year...  I didn't realize that the Cardinals were that good after the ASB...

The writers have been solid so far with the winners...

Could certainly have made a case for Boone, but Baldelli was just as deserving. No issue with the call.

Anti Yankee Bias once again. Been going on for a long time. Boone had no chance.

Probably because he really didn't deserve it...

He deserved it just as much as Baldelli. Mix in the traditional Yankee Bias with these awards, no chance.

Baldelli sure looked good getting swept by Boones team.

Good to see Ketel Marte in a solid 4th; he had a great year and that is as high as he could realistically have finished.  Also good to see Bellinger win, he's a local AZ player so I root for him even though the Dodgers are evil and failures in general.

Somebody voted him 5th.  👎
