These are either written and sung, or just sung.  Note No One to Run With was written by Betts but sung by Allman.  I also added I'm No Angel, which was solo.

Ramblin Man was written and sung by Dickey Betts.  I see my original quote was These songs were written or sung, it should have added by Greg Allman for this pole.  Dickey has his own pole.

Gotcha.  I'll probably go Jessica in that pole, listening to it now.  What a great band.

Went Whipping Post, one of my favorite songs ever.  Honorable mention to Midnight Rider and Melissa.  We had a band in my fraternity that played Melissa (and Jessica) so I've always had a soft spot in my heart for it.

Shiot, just watched that all the way thru, I forgot how good Dan Toler was on guitar.  Even Gregg seems to be looking over at him at one point saying WTF?  :music_guitarred:

How do you pick just one of these ??

No sh’t- went Whipping Post

One of my favorite bands. During the Warren Haynes/ Allen Woody days, I got to spend some time around the band. Good times. Woody was a good friend, died far too young.

Went with Soulshine, but it was a really difficult decision.  One of my top two or three favorite bands.

Look at me time for Old School? I don’t generally like to hijack someone else’s thread- but what the hell.

Many incarnations of this band. Duane & Berry were never really going to be replaced. The time of Brothers & Sisters with one guitar and Chuck Levell on keyboards was an outstanding lineup. Jessica, Ramblin Man came from that lineup.

Danny Toler, along with his brother Frankie, came up with Dickey Betts in Great Southern, then with the reformed Allman Brothers Band. The ABB albums recorded with that lineup are pretty weak overall. Danny & Frankie went on the road with Greg when the Brothers took a break/ broke up- whatever. The Toler Brothers and I became good friends when they lived in Nashville. At a Greg Allman show at Starwood Amphitheater, I was backstage waiting on Danny. His guitar tech went and brought Danny’s guitars for me to check out while I waited. I was sitting on a couch, playing Danny’s Les Paul when the tech told me, that was Duanes. He gave it to Dickey, and Dickey gave it to Danny. My reply was- nice. Get this thing away from me before I break it. I’m No Angel came from that band and has a killer guitar break.

When they decided to reunite the ABB, they We’re looking for something different and they auditioned players. It was kinda awkward. With Butch and Jaimo returning, we knew Frankie was out and Danny was in question. I knew Marty, the bass player from Great Southern and he told me after his audition he was told “we’ll let you know.”

Meanwhile Allen Woody had been fired from his day job and was getting by playing bass for Joe Savage- kinda an early version of the Tiger King. Joe had all these exotic animals and would have snakes draped around his neck on stage and other weird stage antics. I believe one of his kids was actually killed by one of his big cats.? I’d have to do a search and don’t feel like it. So one day Butch Trucks bumps into Woody down in Georgia and asks WTF are you doing in this band. Allen says he’s just trying to make a living so Butch invited him to the Audition. And Woody didn’t Fock around. He showed up with a collection of basses and his own stack. He blew the place up. After they jammed for a while the band members left the room, returned and offered him the gig on the spot.

That ABB incarceration with Allen Woody/ Warren Haynes was focking  strong. Allen & Warren went on to form Govt Mule. Check out some of their early stuff when it was a 3 piece unit. And for something different, check out The Deep End- a tribute to Allen with multiple heavy weight bass players joining Warren on two albums worth of material.

So... I thought I saw this in another video, but for sure it is here -- they had two drummers?  What is the story with that, that's crazy!

2 drummers from the beginning. Not to mention a black drummer, in a long hair, hippie band, in the Deep South.

The Grateful Dead also carried 2 drummers.

Fascinating, and I had that thought about a black drummer in a southern rock band... did they use two drummers on studio recordings?  If so I'll need to go listen for it.

I knew Allen from way back. Saturday night bar band times in Nashville. He was one funny dude. Had a great sense of humor.
When you watch some old ABB videos with Allen in the band, check out his basses. He played a lot of different basses, usually a Thunderbird in the early days. We were in San Francisco when Allen met with Jeff Gould from Modulous Graphite- he gave Allen an 18 string bass. That thing was a monster. Super heavy. I tried to carry it from the bus to the hotel room one night- didn’t get far before I needed help. When Greg, Dickey & Warren took a break, they’d leave Allen, Butch & Jaimoe on stage. I’d often stand backstage and watch him hammer on that thing. Greg usually came and stood behind the amps watching as well. Good times.

Butch and Jaimoe were founding members. Yes, 2 drummers on recordings as well as live.

When the band reformed with Allen & Warren, they also added a percussion player, Marc Quinones, in addition to the two drummers.

This is better. Allan Woody kicking it off on that 18 string bass. You can also see the bass rig he was playing through. Some good shots of both drummers and percussion going on.
