What does a shooting star look like?

Recommended Posts

I'm sitting outside while my fire pit is burning down, watching the sky and chilling out.

I saw what looked like a star, a pinpoint of light, but it was moving steadily from south to north in the sky. It wasn't blinking like a plane, and it was moving too fast anyway.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

Maybe a satellite?  Usually when I have seen a "shooting star" it's quick and moves fast and then disappears.

This one was like fifteen seconds before it faded away.

I've seen shooting stars.  Its pretty much a streak in the sky.  Like someone took a pen and drew a short line very fast.  Altho that might have been a meteor shower.  Maybe they are the same thing.

It was a meteor. Stars don't just go flying across the sky and if they did it would be too far away to see the movement with the naked eye.

I did learn today that we have a Neutron Star that shoots at us. They dug some ice up that showed different times in history when we got in the path and got bombarded. Oddly enough those times were also times of human advancement. Carl Sagen said that the earth getting hit could alter human genes. IDK, but it was interesting. It's Cygnus X-3 abouth 3700 Light Years from Earth..
