Von Miller (no relation to Lindsay) traded to Rams

How do the Rams have any picks left to trade?

They're doing what the Bucs did in the late 90's early 00's.  Keep trading draft picks hoping to hit pay dirt.  It worked for Tampa temporarily, but after hitting that peak they had a massive drop because there wasn't enough top end talent to replace the leaving/high priced veterans.  Miller is a UFA after this season and I don't see him signing back with the Rams.  The Rams are banking on him being the difference maker (and they may be right), to get them their ring.  With only 39 guys under contract for next season, the Rams are only $8M under the projected cap for next year.  They're going to have to do a lot of renegotiations I think.

also Remember when Ditka traded an entire draft and an additional 1st rounder for a Running Back

That was insane.  The Redskins ended up using 5 of those picks (sort of), to move back up to #7 from #12 and take Champ Bailey.  Yeah, Bailey is an HOF'er, but he only spent his rookie contract in Washington.  He was better in Denver and there for 10 years.

But that got them Clinton portis as well who was their main offense during a couple years they made the playoffs.

Oh yeeeeaaahhhhh,

Yeah, but meh.  They made the playoffs twice, won 1 game.  They had 1 playoff win with Bailey too.  The trade really didn't work out to be as big of a boon as it could've/should've been for the Redskins.  I could be underselling it though.  The did get 2 really good OL out of that deal too.  I mean, not directly, as they used their own 2nd rounder in 1999 and their own first rounder in 2000, but that trade allowed them that flexibilty.

Draft picks are overrated in the nfl if you dont have a gm that excels at hitting on studs.   Rams are simply the first team to figure that out.

Tampa traded away 4 first round picks and 2 second round picks in the late 90's early 00's, won a Super Bowl.  I'm thinking the argument could be made that they figured it out because, well, they won the Super Bowl and the Rams haven't won anything of note yet.  If the Rams did, then they'd become the second team.

A lot of people don't know that he is related to Red Miller, who used to coach the Broncos.

Nepotism.

A testament to how lethal Justin Herbert is, is the fact that the Chargers are 15th in points scored with the worst average starting field position in the NFL.  A big culprit is the revolving door at kick returner.  If the Chargers were to do their version of a Von Miller trade, they would send 1-2 second day draft picks to another team for a top kick returner.  Good kick returners do not cost much in draft picks but that would catapult them to probably one of if not the highest scoring team in the NFL.

Please shut up about the Chargers being a kick returner away from certain dynasty status in a thread about Von Miller going to the Rams.  It is irrelevant.  I am the dumber for having read it.  May God have mercy on your soul.  :(

We finally win a focking game and we "reward" the team by trading away a sure fire Ring of Famer?  :wall:

Note that I didn’t comment when you said that it makes the Chargers’ schedule easier.  Because that is relevant.  Similarly if I were to say it makes the Cardinals’ schedule harder, that would be relevant.

HTH

You are our new CMH, who used to post all things Kansas City all the time, like we care.  He will attest that I gave him no small amount of shiot about it.
