Going to Maui: sight-seeing recommendations

Recommended Posts

Looks like I waited too long to make a reservation at that Merriman's place that several of you recommended.  Booked solid the entire week.  😢

Try calling once you arrive on Maui.

Initially, we could not book online but got a nice table by calling

I'm glad I opened this thread.  I just made reservations for March 24.  We'll be in Kauai.

Thanks, you as well.

Do you plan out most of your trip or decide what to do each day? I’ve planned most of our trip out. I feel like we have to do that in order to get all the tours/excursions/dinners in, but I’m generally not a big fan of structured trips.

I know this was for cyclone, but I tend to prefer less rigid trips where every minute isn't planned.

When my family and I went to England/Scotland a decade ago we had a few planned excursions we wanted to see - - Stonehenge, Doune Castle (Monty Python), Rosslyn Chapel - - and then the rest we played by ear.

We schedule the week the first day or so… but plan off days. I like to make sure I get the days and times I like

Yeah, I’m with you there. I don’t like being tied to a schedule in case we feel like hanging out at the pool or doing something different. Unfortunately, most of the tours we want to do have a high likelihood of filling up per TripAdvisor, so I made reservations. Same for dinner.

I have a similar approach. We arrive Friday. Have nothing planned Saturday other than dinner at Tidepools, but then we have a couple days of tours and then another off day.

I can’t wait!

We generally are planners but leave plenty of time just to do whatever. So a couple of excursions and dinners planned out but other than that free to do whatever. Look into that tubing excursion that goes through the old sugar plant. We’re going to do that one. I guess it’s supposed to be really cool

We arrive Tues afternoon / evening due to time zone.  I've booked snorkeling for Thursday and the luau on Saturday.  We leave Sunday afternoon.

Deciding on whether to do a helicopter tour to see the volcano vs day trip.

First world problems muthafockas!!!

I was looking at the tubing yesterday. I’m torn on whether to add it or swap it out for something else. We’re currently scheduled for the following:

- Sunset/dinner cruise 3/20

- Ziplining 3/21

- Kayak and waterfall tour 3/22

- Waimea Canyon tour 3/24

Nothing scheduled for 3/19, 3/23 or 3/25. Looks like the tubing books out quite a bit in advance.

Hey @Bier Meister, how fanatical are masks enforced?  Wife digs karaoke and she wondered if the mask Nazis will have shut that sh1t down.

Ended up booking helicopter tour of volcano / waterfalls,  snorkeling, and Feast at Lele.  Playing the rest by ear.

Masks were not bad… it was standard to wear them to the table, then remove them.

Mixed on vax cards..  had to show them about 4-5 times

The Plantation Course - Kaplua

Brunch at the Ritz Carlton sounds like it would be cheesy, but it was pretty amazing when we were there.

Have fun.

I told my wife. Going to make reservations for tomorrow.  👍

On the boat back from Molokini Crater and seeing several mother humpback whales and their calves.  Also just had a dolphin riding the bow of the boat.  Bottlenose, not the über ghey Miami kind.

you could do them for lunch, if you'd rather hit other places for dinner.  I also keep forgetting that you are further south

Getting c0ck blocked.  Only available time this entire weekend is just before noon tomorrow, but we'll be on another snorkeling trip.  Oh well.  These first world problems are a b1tch.
