Patrick lyoya shooting...

Recommended Posts

I havent seen the video and I probably wont.  From what I have read..this is akin to the russian genocide in ukrain..racist through and through.  Sounds like the cop tackled this guy...tried to taze him twice...then shot em in the head...not a good look.  Parents speak congonese..need a translator.

Black guy commits crimes, cop pulls over, guy resists/runs/fights cop, cop has to shoot black guy….racism.

Rinse….repeat.

I've seen all the videos(happened on the other side of town) and you really can't see anything bad in them.  I still don't understand what led to the stop---i keep seeing "driving with a license plate that did not belong to the vehicle"  I'm not sure what that means.

From the videos-Patrick gets out of car when police pull up(bad idea).  Cop asks for license, Patrick says it's in car and asks passenger to get it and apparently the guy in the car can't find it.  At that point Patrick closes driver door and looks like he's going to start walking to the other side of the car to get the license...this is all subjective though.  That's when the cop grabs him and the struggle starts.  And they struggle for a couple of minutes. Eventually the office tries to taser him twice and missed.  The officer keeps yelling let go of the taser as they struggle on the ground.  Officer was on Patrick's back most of the time during the struggle. You can see the officer pull out his gun and then he shoots him in the back of the head.

From my watching, there is no doubt that force was needed during the fight, but that much?

What I don't get is if he could pull out the gun, and from the video you can see he has his arm free and clear, why doesn't he just start clubbing him with it?  Couple of whacks to the back of the head with the gun(nightstick if he had one) would have ended it right away. Also, I just don't get why the cop didn't just get off of him, step back, call for backup and wait.  He could have let Patrick just leave, run away, they had his car and friend, just round him up later.  Get up, pull out your gun and tell him, to stay still, if Patric comes at you then, you shoot him.  If he runs, so what, again, you have his car and will be able to track him down.

I’m not getting after your post specifically but why is it always that the cops behavior has to change? Like it would never dawn on me to do any of the crap these people that get shot do.

I heard about the shooting in before I even saw the video my first thought was he probably did something ridiculously stupid and sure enough he did. Shouldn’t that be the behavior that changes?

Haven't seen the video but love when people like Honcho speculate on what the cop should have done differently.  "Oh just pistol whip him with a loaded gun.". Lol.

My favorite is when they use the first name only like they know him.

My favorite is when the media will show a picture of the guy holding puppies or a baby and smiling and conveniently leave out the ones where he’s pointing a gun at a camera for a selfie or just openly doing crack

I don't disagree, everything he did was stupid. And for 99% of the people, it wouldn't dawn on us to make every mistake possible to escalate the situation to where we are rolling around on the ground fighting with a cop. But I don't know how you change the behavior of stupidity and panic.

I think we should all question the cops when a situation like this happens and see if there are ways to insure a better outcome.

So asking a question exploring other tactics is off limits now, questions that are being explored by multiple investigations into the incident.

I used the first name cause it was easier for me to remember how to spell Patrick than "Lyoya".

I'll remember that for next, only 4 letters.  I don't write up crime that much, so it's not a word that pops into my head.

Grand Rapids police officer who fatally shot Patrick Lyoya is fired

A Grand Rapids, Michigan, police officer has been fired less than a week after being charged with second-degree murder in the death of Patrick Lyoya, City Manager Mark Washington announced Wednesday.

The former officer, Christopher Schurr, waived his right to a hearing after the city's police chief and the labor relations officer recommended that he be terminated on Friday, according to Washington.

Washington said Schurr's employment with the Grand Rapids Police Department was terminated effective June 10.

Man, they're all blending together. But the way you describe it? I think I posted about this. Yeah, when you're face down nose first in the ground and somebody shoots you in the f****** back of the head? Sorry, I feared for my life! Doesn't really work for me.

Yeah, what you're not going to hear is how he gets a pension. And how the state unemployment commission will grant him 100% salary for the rest of his f****** life or some such nonsense.

Agreeing with your whole final paragraph 100%.

In my “Police Reform” manifesto, “Discontinue Hot Pursuit” is one of my key proposals.

You steal a cops taser after repeatedly being told to stop and to quit fighting I have no sympathy if he puts that gun down your throat and pops you.

you heroes go apply to be an officer and let some of these hard-hitting dudes take your Taser from you and see how long you last.

Probably wouldn't be a bad thing as he was only fired because the other guy was black.  Let's be honest, this cop isn't fired if he killed a white guy, right?
