WASHINGTON — Thousands of people are making their way to DC for Inauguration Day, sending hotel prices soaring and availability plummeting.

Booking.com reported Tuesday morning that 74% of DC hotel rooms are unavailable, and prices range anywhere from $300 a night to $2,000 a night.

Near the White House, The Moxy only has two rooms left for the weekend at an average nightly price of $675, according to Booking.com.

 

Other hotel rooms near the White House, like the Embassy Suites, Grand Hyatt, JW Marriott and Willard have no rooms available on their websites.

Many of the listed hotels on sites like booking.com and Expedia show as few as six or two rooms available for the weekend.

Expedia is showing $474 a night at one hotel in Arlington and one for $276 in Silver Spring, indicating that hotels become more affordable as they move farther away from downtown DC.

Airbnb also has some apartments available to book for the weekend for those who prefer an alternative.
