.....Charlamagne Tha God has never been shy about speaking his mind and this is a trait that fans of “The Breakfast Club” love about the radio host....But when he released his first book, “Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It,” Charlamagne was slammed by some progressive supporters who accused him of denying what they see as the prevalence of white privilege....

 

Question: Why is the phrase “black privilege” so controversial for some people?

 

Charlamagne: “Yeah, because people see ‘black privilege’ and they automatically think ‘white privilege,’ which is something that is very prevalent – Oh, black people don’t have no privilege and you’re making white people think that we’re equal. What I’m simply trying to tell people is I think it’s a privilege to be black. You know? I think when you look at the word privilege it has two definitions. One definition is advantages granted to a certain community, but the other definition is an honor to be, and I think it’s an honor to be in this black skin. I don’t think that my black skin is a liability. I don’t think it’s a burden. I just feel like we have access to a divine system that … we can tap into that causes us to prosper in spite of everything that’s thrown at us in this country.”

 

Question: What do you tell people who believe the American dream wasn’t for them?

 

Charlamagne: “They’re absolutely right. The American dream wasn’t for them. America was never designed for any minority to prosper. America was designed for the white people, simple as that. I would tell them we’re here now, though. And you know we’ve had people who came before us who fought for us to have certain civil liberties … Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was not out there marching and getting his ass kicked you know, for us to just be sitting around saying “hey, this can’t be done” … No. We have access to go get it, so we need to go get it, regardless of how difficult or hard it may be … The American dream never was for us, but now it’s time just for us to create our dreams.”

 

Question: So you’re saying that you can still acknowledge that there’s injustice and still access your black privilege?

 

Charlamagne: “Absolutely … I can acknowledge that it’s institutionalized racism, systemic oppression, fight against those things and still think it’s a privilege to be black. Period. My black skin is not a burden or a liability. Your racism and your bigotry is.”

Sha’Carri Richardson kicked off plane after argument with flight attendant

.....American track and field star Sha’Carri Richardson was kicked off an American Airlines flight following an altercation with a flight attendant on Saturday, she posted on her Instagram....The 23-year-old claimed the flight attendant, whom Richardson identifies as “John,” disrespected her while she was speaking on her phone prior to takeoff. She posted video of herself in her seat before panning to the flight attendant.....She continued to argue with the flight attendant in her video and after showing him on camera he moved back behind a curtain. After asking her to stop recording, Richardson responded animatedly at the flight attendant....

“I’m recording me but you jumped in my video, so I caught you, because you jumped in my video,” Richardson told the flight attendant. “You’re harassing me at this point, so I think you should stop. I think you should stop.”....Multiple passengers can subsequently be heard growing aggravated with Richardson, telling her to stop arguing with the flight attendant.....“Y’all see him right? Y’all see him right? Y’all see him right? I’m sorry, it’s not me,” Richardson responded. “Talk to him. No ma’am. Do no talk to me like that. I’m an adult. Do not talk to me like that. Do not talk to me like that. Tell him to stop. If you do not know what’s going on, do not yell at me.”

.....Richardson got into another argument with a different passenger and she claims she was disrespected by many of the passengers on board. While explaining that she thinks the flight attendant should have been kicked off as well, another passenger can be heard telling her “Thank you, by the way, I’m going to miss my connection, I have to now get off the plane.”

“Oh, so you’re worried about a connection when a grown man is disrespecting me?” Richardson responded.

“I don’t give a s–t,” the passenger responded.

Richardson was then escorted off the plane, and continued to trade shouts with passengers and flight crew on her way out. Applause could be heard as she exited.

“Tell me if I’ll be wrong to pursue legal actions against the airline XX@XXamericanair not only did the man threaten me but also an innocent bystander who simply just wanted a picture with me. In the beginning of the video you can hear a Caucasian male state that he doesn’t give a f*** as a man that male flight attendant is intimidating a woman ....Also the captain not doing anything to help the situation and this flight attendant has the applause when I exited the plane when I’m pretty serious the disrespect I received would not have happened if I was a one of them.”

....Richardson rose to prominence while starring for LSU’s track and field team, breaking the NCAA 100-meter record as a freshman. She qualified for the 2020 Olympics, but was later disqualified after testing positive for marijuana. Richardson claimed she smoked marijuana after learning that her biologically mother had died.

Black student erupts over ‘too many white people’ at UVA multicultural center

....An irate black student at the University of Virginia blasted her white classmates for taking advantage of the school’s new, expanded multicultural center, shocking video shows....The footage, which has gone viral on social media, shows an unidentified student of color at the 16,000-student public research university in Charlottesville giving what she dubbed a “public service announcement” to other students sitting nearby....

“Excuse me, if y’all didn’t know, this a [Multicultural Student Center] and frankly there’s just too many white people in here and this a space for people of color,” the young woman said. “So just be really cognizant of the space that you’re taking up because it does make some of us POCs uncomfortable when we see too many white people in here.”...The expanded space – billed by the university as a place to “embrace and support the diversity” of UVA – had only been open for four days, according to the miffed student....“And frankly, there’s the whole university for a lot of y’all to be at and there’s very few spaces for us,” she said. “So keep that in mind, thank you.”

University of Minnesota is Giving Out Paid Summer Research Internships — But Only for Students Who Are Not White

....The University of Minnesota is giving out paid research internships that white students are not allowed to apply for. The taxpayer-funded Multicultural Summer Research Opportunities Program is a 10-week summer research internship for undergraduate students and is only open to non-white students. According to the university’s website, the students will work full-time with a faculty mentor on either an established research project or they will create and develop their own with the faculty mentor....Each participant will receive a $6,000 stipend for “personal and research expenses” and an additional stipend of an unknown amount that is given to the faculty mentor for use by the student. At the top of the list of requirements to qualify, above the minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, is “Identify as a Student of Color or Native American.”

....filed a federal civil rights complaint with the Office of Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Education on May 19 over an entire race being excluded from the opportunity. According to a press release from the organization, “The University of Minnesota is engaging in unlawful discrimination through the Multicultural Summer Research Opportunities Program. Racial discrimination by a public institution is illegal regardless of which race suffers. Discrimination against white applicants is just as unlawful as discrimination against black or other non-white applicants. There is no good form of racial discrimination. Because UMN receives federal funding, OCR had the power and obligation to make UMN stop and to impose whatever remedial relief is necessary.....The U. Minnesota segregated summer program is inexcusable, and it’s shocking that a major university would so openly make educational opportunities open only to students of a certain skin color...There is no good form of racial discrimination. Depriving white students of educational opportunities does not promote racial or any other form of justice...U. Minnesota’s conduct is inexcusable....”

Provisions of this civil rights act forbade discrimination on the basis of sex, as well as, race in hiring, promoting, and firing. The Act prohibited discrimination in public accommodations and federally funded programs.

To Protest Racism, UC-Berkeley Students Block White People From Using Campus Entrance

.....During a protest to advocate for safe spaces for students of color and transgender individuals, University of California-Berkeley attendees blocked white students from using a highly trafficked campus pathway....Last Friday, protestors carried banners that read “Fight 4 Spaces of Color,” and linked arms to form a human barricade in front of the campus’s Sather Gate. They only allowed non-white students to pass through.

“Whose university? Our university!” they chanted repeatedly. One protestor complained there were too many white students in classrooms. “When you walk into a class, what’s the majority in there?” one student angrily asked. “I’m telling you, man, this is bigger than you,” a protestor told white student who was being blocked from passing by. “This is about ‘whiteness,’ this is not about you.”

Many white and Asian students were forced to take a dirt path through brush in order to skirt the protestors as they chanted: “Go around! Go around!” The protestors then moved to the student store, where they began to chant “Students over profit!” apparently in objection to the fact the store makes money from the items they sell. One student climbed on top of a ledge to place an “eviction notice” on a second-story window. The notice insists the store must relocate to another part of the campus and give the building to students of color belonging to the LGBTQIIA+ community...The notice ends with a warning: “If you fail to vacate immediately, community action will continue to escalate with the goal of eliminating any revenue generation.”

Uber Puts Diversity Head on Leave After Worker Backlash Over ‘Don’t Call Me Karen’ Events

.....Workers said they felt that Bo Young Lee, the company’s head of diversity, equity, and inclusion, was lecturing them on the plight of white women. Uber has put Bo Young Lee, its head of diversity, equity, and inclusion, also referred to as DEI, on leave in recent days after employees expressed outrage over a series of events she moderated titled, “Don’t Call Me Karen,” according to report from the New York Times....The company’s CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, and its chief people officer, Nikki Krishnamurthy, purportedly told several employees that Lee had been placed on leave in an email last week.... Employees had expressed outrage over Lee’s “Don’t Call Me Karen” events, which the company described as conversations “diving into the spectrum of the American white woman’s experience.” The events focused specifically on women deemed “Karens,”....Although the talks, part of the company’s “Moving Forward” series, were reportedly aimed to be an “open and honest conversation about race,” Uber employees said they felt they were being lectured about why the term “Karen” was derogatory and the struggles of white women.....

....“We have heard that many of you are in pain and upset by yesterday’s Moving Forward session,” Khosrowshahi and Krishnamurthy said in their employee to Uber employees, according to the Times. “While it was meant to be a dialogue, it’s obvious that those who attended did not feel heard.”....After the first event, a Black woman employee at Uber asked how the company would prevent “tone-deaf, offensive, and triggering conversations” from being part of its diversity efforts, the Times found. Lee is said to have responded that the “Moving Forward” series meant to promote tough conversations and was not meant to be comfortable.....Ms Lee, who was an adviser to Hillary Clinton’s failed 2016 presidential campaign, encouraged Uber staff to “have an open and honest conversation about race”.

....At the second of the two events, black and Hispanic workers used internal chat apps to complain they felt “scolded for the entirety of that meeting”....Some staff complained that the event (minimized) racism by equating the term “Karen” with other slurs.....“Karen” is a term of abuse used to refer to middle-class white women with a sense of entitlement.....

No charges for Chicago teens who killed 70-yr-old with stolen KIA, mayor fires police chief who asked questions

...Police in the village of Robbins, which is southwest of Chicago, announced that no charges have been filed against three teenagers who stole a Kia in February and then crashed it into 70-year-old Donald Carter’s car, killing him. Carter’s family has been outraged that no charges have been forthcoming against the teenagers.

Robbins Mayor Darren Bryant fired Police Chief David Sheppard in April following the incident after the chief repeatedly questioned behavior coming from the mayor’s office.....According to the Chicago Tribune, Sheppard said he believed that his questioning of directions he received from Bryant in the handling of Carter’s vehicle factored into his dismissal. Sheppard said the vehicle was taken to a large building where public works vehicles and road salt are stored to keep it enclosed because state police had not yet processed it for evidence in the crash investigation. Sheppard was terminated after ostensibly questioning Bryant’s purported requests to break chain-of-custody rules by moving the vehicle involved in the accident. Even after being advised that moving the vehicle could result in evidentiary chain-of-custody issues, as well as potentially corrupting the evidence, Mayor Bryant requested that it be moved anyway.

....The former police chief said he was contacted by the mayor and told the car had to be moved because it was blocking public works vehicles. Sheppard contacted the public works director, who said that wasn’t true....Sheppard is now considering suing the village for wrongful termination. Now that the former police chief is gone, it appears the entire case is magically being dropped..... that their ages were 17, 15, and 14, meaning at least one was of legal age to drive.

On Feb. 12, 2023, at approximately 2:30 pm, a police officer saw a Kia with a broken driver’s side window speeding north. He followed the car, according to police reports. The car slammed into a Ford Taurus that was being driven by Carter. The elderly man was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he succumbed to his injuries. Two days following the fatal crash, Robbins Mayor Darren Bryant ..... held a news conference..... announced the boys were released to their parents....

....The victim’s son Desmond Carter remarked in February that he was upset the three teenagers were released without being charged, according to the Chicago Tribune. The family wants the teenagers to be charged and held accountable for their crimes. “There’s so much hurt and there’s so much anger behind it mostly because these kids were allowed to go home to the very people who obviously weren’t making sure they knew where these kids were in the first place...My daddy is supposed to be here. I’m pissed off they took my daddy before his time.”...People are outraged that the teens are going to walk over the death....

Equinox is ordered to pay fired worker $11.25 MILLION after professional body builder claimed dismissal was racially motivated - and not because she was late for work 47 times in less than a year

...A trainer at a swanky Equinox gym was awarded $11.25 million by a New York jury after she successfully sued her former employee. Robynn Europe said Equinox used her lack of punctuality as a pretext for firing her. She alleged that the real reason was based on racial and sexual discrimination ....In the jury trial, Robynn Europe, 39, did not contest Equinox's allegations about her tardiness but said other trainers who were late a similar amount of times were not punished, reports the New York Times...

....Europe testified that a manager who reported to her, Christopher Maltman, often made vulgar comments about black women's bodies, diverted personal training clients away from employees of color and regularly harassed staff with offensive language.....Her lawyers argued that rather than address Europe's complaints, they used her lateness as a pretext to terminate her. ...Europe was represented in the trial by Crumiller, known as the feminist litigation firm. ....'This is not just a victory for our client, but for all Black women who have suffered that noxious combination of racism and sexism that is too often tolerated in the workplace. We could not be prouder of Röbynn for her relentless determination to hold Equinox accountable for its vile misogynoir,' Crumiller said.

Target diversity chief demands 'White women' get to work against America's systemic racism

....A Target Corporation diversity executive demanded "White women" get to work to combat the supposed systemic racism in America, while adding the retail giant was making some internal decisions based on predictions of shifting demographics.  "One of the hardest things in the world to be every day is Black," Kiera Fernandez, a chief diversity and inclusion officer at Target, said in a video interview with Essence Magazine in January....

....Target established the Racial Equity Action and Change – which is led by Fernandez – to rapidly "accelerate" those efforts. The task force focuses on engaging Black customers in stores and ramping up promotions and hiring of Black employees. The retail giant also promised to drastically increase its demographics of Black employees – which was at 50%....."[W]e’re on track to spend more than $2 billion with Black-owned brands by 2025. We’ve already increased our investments with Black-owned companies and suppliers – including marketing agencies, construction companies, facilities maintenance and more – by 50% since 2020," Fernandez told the HR Digest in July 2022 about Target....

She proceeded to say that it was the role of "White women" to call out "transgressions." .....She then singled out a White person present in the panel discussion and said her voice, on the basis of her race, would be given more weight in the workplace. ...."Given the calls for racial equity over the past year, we know that many companies are standing up or deepening their investments in their diversity and inclusion work… DE&I is not meant to rest on one individual’s shoulders," she added....."
