Biden On Catastrophic Afghanistan Withdrawal As US Citizens Were Left Behind - "I Was Right"

So now terrorist killed US soldiers and it's the fault of the US?  The US military evacuated tens of thousands of americans successfully.  The largest evacuation in history I believe.  Terrorist managed to kill some americans during this time.  It sucks but we're still far far better off than the number of americans who died every year fighting in a pointless year.

Having served in war time I can tell you that yes.....it is....   When your people are killed in this manner, and you lose billions of dollars of hardware as they did.....military leaders failed, just that simple.

Leaders are held accountable for this rather regularly I might add, this is not new or unusual.  That our leaders were not held to account here is remarkable.

Not sure we can really blame Biden for the debacle.  I would be more inclined to hold the military leadership accountable.  We should not have a President micromanaging something like this.  There should have been a host of court martials.....

Isn't the President the leader of our military? The commander in chief?

Do you think the plan was to fly the equipment back?

And I don't disagree the military leaders phuked up.  Regardless of what I think of the outcome, it was chaotic and not well planned.

If they had a plan it appears to have been at least poorly executed, and probably not well concieved. Meeting that time line appears to have taken priority over the safety of people and hardware.

Yes.  But holding him accountable is of little use. He determined the action to be taken, and the timeline(which was not advisable).  His leaders are the ones who are the SME's and charged with execution of the plan.  To me.....they failed far more than Biden did here.

They were NEVER flying the old, used equipment back.  If anything they'd have smashed it.  They certainly would not have brought it back.  Every expert acknowledges this.

Were there 40 of those experts?  I mean, is it now "disinformation" to suggest that they would have repeated what they have done in other conflicts (some of them I participated in) and brought hardware back?

It is common to leave some types to be sure, but not what they left this time.

It was not well done, plain and simple.  Not Biden's fault.   Hell, I bet something similar would have happened if Trump were President.

If I were a politico advising Biden on how to handle this topic, I’d tell him one thing - “Shut the fock up.”  Nothing good is gained by insisting you did a good job.  You failed.  Accept it, learn from it, and respect the families who lost loved ones due to your ineptitude.  Just STFU you feckless bastahd.

Oh wait no, he disrespected gold star families at every turn.

EXCLUSIVE: Biden's TWO missed chances to prevent Kabul Airport suicide attack that killed 13 troops during chaotic Afghan withdrawal

.....In the days before a suicide bomber killed 13 service personnel at Kabul airport in 2021, U.S. military commanders were aware of the threat and twice missed chances to take out the deadly terrorist network behind the plot, according to a new book.....The Taliban, who had seized control of Afghanistan, refused a request to raid a hotel that was a known staging post for ISIS-K, who carried out the atrocity.  And at around the same time, superior officers vetoed a plan for a drone strike elsewhere because of the 'negative response' of the Taliban to such a raid. Taken together, the shocking conclusion is that the bloodiest moment in President Joe Biden's presidency might have been avoided if American troops had not been reliant on their enemy for protection in the final days of the evacuation. A total of 183 people were killed in the blast, including the bomber.....

....The details are set out in 'Kabul: The Untold Story of Biden's Fiasco and the American Warriors Who Fought to the End,' which is published by Center Street on Tuesday — the two-year anniversary of the Taliban takeover. Some 13 U.S. service members were killed in a suicide attack at the Abbey Gate of Hamid Karzai International Airport in 2021. ....'Our findings — tucked away in the Pentagon’s own documents and in the own words of military officers personally involved in the Afghanistan evacuation — provide more damning evidence about the dangerous stupidity of relying upon terrorists like the Taliban to provide security at Kabul airport,' said Jerry Dunleavy, one of the book authors and an investigator. He is helping lead the Afghanistan withdrawal investigation for the House Foreign Affairs Committee.....

.....In a hearing earlier this year, Vargas-Andrews, described how he was stationed in a snipe tower on the day of the blast. He said he identified a person in the throng that matching the description of a suspected suicide bomber just hours before the attack. He said his superiors failed to act on his warning. The result was one of the deadliest days for U.S. forces in the last decade of the war. At least 160 Afghans also died. Hasson said three different officers — across two separate investigations — stated that the military and the intelligence community were tracking ISIS-K members likely linked to the Abbey Gate bombing, and that they were nearly certain that an attack was imminent, but no offensive measures were taken. ....'Leaders in D.C. made one unforced error after another throughout the withdrawal, and each mistake compounded the risk to the men and women on the ground. ....'Ultimately, it led to U.S. commanders tailoring decisions to the desires of Taliban leaders who had them surrounded, and to the loss of thirteen brave Americans.....'

One Year Later, Troops and Veterans Involved in Afghanistan Exit Grapple with Mental Scars

......."I want nothing to do with the government, nothing to do with the military," said the airman, whose separation is still being processed. "Before, my plan had been to make it to my 20 [years of service] and then switch to a [General Schedule] job, that kind of route, and now I don't want to do any of that."......The Afghanistan evacuation effort also saw the final U.S. casualties of the war when a suicide bomber struck at the airport's Abbey Gate on Aug. 26, killing 11 Marines, a sailor and a soldier; wounding more than 20 other troops; and killing at least 170 Afghans.....But suicide is only the most extreme result of a mental health crisis, and active-duty service members and veterans involved with the evacuation interviewed by Military.com described being haunted a year later by what they experienced.....A survey released earlier this month of 1,450 military community members who helped with the evacuation found that 41% of those who answered reported suffering from trauma as a result of the withdrawal.....

......"That is a debilitating statistic," said Matt Zeller, a senior adviser at Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America. "Four out of 10 veterans involved in this effort over the last year are continuing to suffer right now. And let's be clear: Moral injury is the most insidious of the injuries that a veteran can suffer."....Lucier, who served in the Marine Corps, is one of the hundreds of veterans who plunged into helping evacuate Afghans who aided the 20-year U.S. war effort after Kabul fell to the Taliban last year. He, like many other veterans, has continued that work over the past year, an effort that takes a mental and emotional toll and yields a growing list of difficult stories. The brother with a severe physical disability, whose family "begged and begged and begged" for him to be evacuated with them, but who didn't meet eligibility criteria. The father in the United States who is trying to convince his ex-wife to allow their 3- and 5-year-old sons to come to America, even though she'll have to stay in Afghanistan because she doesn't have a visa. "The final stroke in a war that I fought in that was really, inclusively, finally lost was a pretty immediate emotional low," Lucier said in an interview with Military.com. "And then I think staying in this space has also been kind of detrimental and deleterious to my own mental health. But I do it because, if not me, then who?...."

Withdrawing was the right move but it's hard to give him any credit for doing so after watching it get carried out as ineptly as possible.

‘I Was Right’: Biden Chews Out Reporter Questioning Him On Botched Afghanistan Withdrawal Report

....President Joe Biden lashed out at a reporter Friday after he was questioned about a State Department report on the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan.....A State Department after-action report released Friday said that Secretary of State Antony Blinken had no idea who was in charge of the department’s efforts during the operation, hampering its efforts. The investigation into the chaotic withdrawal began in October 2021, with over 150 former or current officials in the State Department.... Biden attacked his own administration late this week for saying that his actions in Afghanistan in 2021 led to “serious consequences” and failures as U.S. forces pulled out from the country....The report from the U.S. State Department said that the decision “to end the U.S. military mission in Afghanistan had serious consequences for the viability of the Afghan government and its security.”....The report found that “there was insufficient senior-level consideration of worst-case scenarios and how quickly those might follow” and that the administration “failed to establish a broader task force as the situation in Afghanistan deteriorated in late July and early August 2021.”

.....The evacuation was marked by 13 American military personnel being killed in a bombing as American forces were evacuating from Kabul, and 10 civilians were killed in a retaliatory drone strike. Republicans ripped the Biden administration over the withdraw....“All the evidence – remember what I said about Afghanistan? I said we would get help from the Taliban,” Biden said in response to a question from a reporter about the State Department report after he spoke about the Supreme Court’s decision striking down his proposal to cancel student loan debt. “What is happening now? What’s going on? Read your press. I was right. Thanks.”....The botched evacuation led to calls for Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Army Gen. Mark Milley to resign. A Senate report claimed as many as 9,000 American citizens were left behind.....

Biden is The Commander in Chief. It's all on him. That's exactly his job.

A commander-in-chief or supreme commander is the person who exercises supreme command and control over an armed force or a military branch. As a technical term, it refers to military competencies that reside in a country's executive leadership, a head of state, head of government, or other designated government officialOne of the most important roles for the President of the United States is that of Commander in Chief.
