Alias Detective 1,389 Posted July 27, 2023 I just watched JT place the tee and ball into the ground on the tee box. He then used his club to pound the the ball and tee into the ground. I think he hit it twice. Was that considered strokes in the past or was it never considered strokes?

If you tee the ball up and then knock it off during your waggle or practice, it is not a stroke either.
bostonlager 2,664 Posted July 27, 2023 You have to have intent to take an actual stroke.

supermike80 1,804 Posted July 28, 2023 Here's one that happened last week. We were watching the group ahead of us in our league. Guy lined up, swung, and his ball hit the 150 stake about 30 yards in front of him, it richoched off and went dead left into the water. I told him that was a free drop from the same place. Was I wrong? I am pretty sure if you are playing with overhead wires, and your ball hits a wire, you get a redo. So I figured the same should be true here. When I golfed on my high school team, a kid from another school hit one of the tee blocks from the women's tee in front of us. The block came of of the ground, flew up in the air about 15ft and landed back in the ground. His ball flew off to the left and landed on the next hole's green. It was hilarious.

If he thought the 150 yard marker was in his way you are allowed to pull it out before your shot.

Normally yes, but it was quite a bit ahead of where he was. Hitting it was a fluke.

Decisions on the Rules of Golf: 19-1/1 Ball Deflected by Direction Post Q. A ball is deflected by a direction post. What is the ruling? A. It is a rub of the green and the ball must be played as it lies, without penalty.

If you're playing legit - its the same as if it hit a tree or sprinkler head. The only exception would be if the course had a local rule in place saying free drop

Playing in a Jr. tournament a kid I knew teed off, his ball slammed into the ladies tee marker and shot backwards behind the tee box he just teed from. It was tee box #1 and we went off on tee-times. There ware A LOT of people who needed to move so Kevin could hit shot 2.

If so, I believe it's on him to move it. If it's not moveable, then without looking anything up, I would wonder too. I guess regardless of being a man made obstruction, it would be the same as bouncing off a sprinkler head.

Pimpadeaux 2,404 Posted July 29, 2023 I care about golf etiquette but not necessarily about golf rules. Hit one in the water? Do over. Foot wedge to get it on the fairway. Always. Lost ball? Fock it. Drop a new one and don't count the stroke. Take a fairway shot and tee it up on a nice tuft of grass. Hell yeah. Water hazard I can pick up my ball and toss it over? Every time. Golf is not the boss of me, yo. I drink beer, chew tobacco and cheat my ass off with no regrets. I usually wind up with a score of 506 anyway, but I don't care. DON'T CARE.
