If you are the Giants, would you trade a #1 & #2 next year for DTR?

Recommended Posts

The Browns actually had something similar happen to them in the 1970s.  They traded legendary WR Paul Warfield for the rights to select QB Mike Phipps with the #3 pick in 1970.  So the Browns invested a lot in Phipps.  It went down as one of the worst trades ever as Phipps was terrible. But then the Browns selected a QB from southern California named Brian Sipe in the 13th round in 1972.  Sipe also wore #17.  He wound up taking Phipps’ job and Sipe won the NFL MVP in 1980.

Well the Giants don’t have a 7th round pick anymore. They just traded it to Arizona for Isiah Simmons. Love it. I remember a chargers fan saying they were clearing cap space for next year.  Lol.

Man those Clemson defenders bust at a high rate. A 7th is chump change tho.  8 suppose a swiss army knife fot the year.  Maybe a different coach can unlock Simmons.  Seems like a rental.

Camp reports are that he was gonna get cut after he failed at Safety.  Obviously Wink (Giants GM) sees something in him, and Wink's scheme takes advantage of these types of players, so a 7th for a chance, sure!  Lets do it.

Wink likes to get after the QB. He has speed and length. Plus the Giants are atrocious at covering TE’s. He should help there.

Exactly, this trade has nothing to do with 2024 cap space, which means it's stupid for someone to say it does, like you just did.

The NYG are currently slated to have the 10th most cap space in 2024, ready to make a FA splash, just like I said they would.

You don't understand football, much like everything else.

Read somewhere he doesn't want to play LBer.   Man without a position.   Be interesting if he can figure it out a bit.  Top 10 pick.

You are a complete idiot. Just stfu now. They have spent more money than anyone during the FA period.  They did that by freeing up cap space. Go away. You know nothing.

Read an article where cards fans lambasted him in thr preseason game vs the chiefs.  Lack of effort.  Looks like if he is going to be anything it will be a guy who just screams off the edge to rush the passer.  He had the lowest pff grade of anyone for the Cards that game.

They only spent $90M on free agents, towards the bottom of the league.  Please just stop digging your own hole and shut up.

I said during the FA period. Seriously now, stfu. Unless trades don’t count against the cap. Go look in the mirror and slap yourself. Thanks

Read the op you idiotic child.  The NFL is super thirsty for QBs and right now its incredibly obvious everyone made a massive mistake in evaluating DTR on draft day. Most first round QBs dont show the command of an NFL offense like this.  I mean we sat there for YEARS watching guys like Mariota dink and dunk and DTR is showing a cannon arm and an ability to throw guys open deep and hit them deep when there is no window there and hes not skeered to try. Plus he tuns fast.  But you know fock all about the NFL nor why DTR obviously is special and will be a star in the NFL.  Your post im quoting will go down as the worst post You ever made and will haunt you for years.

I I think that’s what you need. You need someone to hand hold you and watch Mariota suck throwing short passes afraid to throw deep for like five seasons and then come back and look at DTR again.  why are you on a football Forum when you don’t know football?

I know more about football than you, as there is no way in hell the NYG will trade a 2024 1st and 2024 2nd round picks to the Browns for DTR this season.  After they just gave their QB that they love $160M.  You wanna bet?

And no other team is gonna trade that kind of draft capital mere months after he was selected in the 5th round.  That's one of the dumbest things I've ever read.  You think every NFL team didn't scout this kid?  You think 2 preseason games are gonna change any GM's mind that fast?  I assumed this was a troll job because the only way a post like that gets made is in jest.  No one on Earth is stupid enough to believe that it.

You know who else has looked good this preseason?  Aiden O'Connel.  Multiple firsts for him too?  Go away.

Gutterdope: No racist, they are saving their money for next year

HT- The Giants spent a lot of money this year because they cleared out space before FA now instead of later.

By cutting Golladay before June 1, they save $6.7M this year, and took the dead cap of $14.7M this year.

If they waited post June 1, they would have saved $13.5M this year, and only a $7.9M dead cap this year.  They also would have had a $6.8M dead cap hit next year.

The goal was to clear off as much for next year, where they will look to spend that money, and they will have the 10th most cap space next year.

So by cutting him early, it's less to spend this year, more to spend next year.

Again, you're embarrassing yourself.

How’s that? They cut a guy prior to June 1 to get money now taking the bigger hit next year. End of story.  I give you libtards credit for white knighting for each other though. Even if you look just as dumb.

They didn't need the 6.7M before June to sign anyone.  Give it up.

If we are talking about teams that would trade for a QB, then the Browns should talk to the 49ers.  Look at what they gave up for Trey Lance...who just got beat out for the backup job by Sam Darnold---another first round draft bust.  Clearly, that's a team that over-values their ability to evaluate QB's.

Quote

2021 first-round pick (No. 12 overall) 2022 first-round pick (No. 29 overall) 2022 third-round pick (No. 101 overall) 2023 first-round pick (No. 29 overall)

In a weird move, the Browns today named Josh Dobbs the backup QB, then immediately traded Dobbs to the Cardinals and named DTR the backup QB.  its almost like there was a trade in place for DTR but it fell through.
