While I don't agree with the premise of the BBC headline or the reaction of the OP, people living in urban areas, particularly big cities where heat is absorbed by asphalt and concrete, have more heat stress than those living in rural areas, so it follows that a greater percentage of African Americans  (and Latinos, and probably Asian people) will be affected by heat than white people because a greater percentage of African Americans live in urban areas.

That has been said for years. Urban heat islands is a term that's been around for decades.

Like I said, I disagree with the premise, although the data in the article is clear. More black people in cities obviously means more black people affected by heat. It said nothing about it not affecting white people, just that as a percentage of population, black people are more affected.

Surprised it was from the BBC, but like you said - the article itself isn't QUITE saying what the OP thinks it is.  It works both way, libs looking for more race sh1t click on it, and people like the OP thrive off the "see, this is what the other side all think!!".  There's really no downside for sites to frame stuff that way.   More effective than just talking in socio-economic terms.

This is not an identity politics issue, other than activists and the MSM trying to turn it into one. A large percentage of the overall American population is now obese. But there is a glaring problem with obesity in the black community overall. Black women, in particular, are obese at a rate of 4 out of every 5 adults in the United States. 

And it's not just with the hard stats, this is observable with the basic "eye test" in day to day life. 

When Wesley Hunt went onto Joe Rogan, he pointed out that the best defense against COVID19 is to be in good physical condition. So if you do get it, your body is as healthy as it can be, and you have as best a chance as you can to try to fight it off. This isn't some kind of strange advice, it's common sense. Getting your health right can only improve your best possible odds if something tragically happens and you want to optimize your best path to some kind of recovery. Rogan pointed out that no one in the MSM is going to say "Go to the gym" because it interferes with Big Pharma's profit margins to give people some measure of self advocacy instead of relying on the Big Health industry. 

Now, you might push that there is a linkage between poverty and the black community at large, as it relates to obesity, but what food you put into your mouth is still a choice. 

If black Americans would like to suffer less from health issues, including heat related ones, then getting into good shape would be a start. It's not the "Be All/End All", but it's more practical than just blaming racism. 

Also really heavy white people are going to take many of the same heat risks as many black ones. The problem with looking for racism around every corner is it immediately demands the removal of all practical context. 

There are places in the entire world where it's normally hot as hell. I mean drastically hotter on average that most places in the United States. You'll notice in many of those places, the people who aren't passing out from the heat are probably going to be thinner.

First time I noticed this en masse was after Hurricane Katrina. 1000's of African Americans were outside the Superdome & I was shocked by how many of the women were morbidly obese. Mentioned as much when I got to work that night. One well known liberal who had worked days, said something to the effect that I think you're just a raciss ***hole.
