Personally, if parents take their kids to this stuff, that's on them. In the long run, I might not think it's appropriate, but I don't think it's might right to tell others how to raise their kids (unless actual abuse/beating/molesting is taking place). 

I can't understand why everyone (they know who they are) is so hung up on the DQ stuff. Just don't take your kids if you don't think it's right.

Exactly, and like I said - I have no idea context of anybody at those things.   Was it a parent who didn't know what exactly was there, were they actively encouraging their kids to do things, do they go to dozens of these a year, etc.   Is taking a kid to a drag show or pride parade less or more "abuse" than letting the same kids watch horror movies and a ton of violence?   Parents let their kids do all sorts of things that I find questionable, and I'd guess others don't like things I do with my kids.   

I get people getting this worked up when it's in the schools, and I have seen examples of DG story hour in schools.

I can't speak for everyone you feel thinks this way, but for me I am not defending their belief, I am often defending their right to hold that belief and/or don't think it's that wildly different than things we already do or allow.  For example, what I asked above - why is a drag show off limits for kids but we still allow (way more frequently) the types of "dance" teams that I've seen?  I find the reactions interesting, which is why I am in those threads a bit.  

I will agree that the types of "freaks" you speak of are largely if not exclusively on the left.  We won't agree on the personal responsibility comment and that being a solely left thing.
