I was talking about the idea that this was illegal since she lives in Maryland. I assume her house in Cali meets the legal requirements.

I would just do it and not make it a criteria going in. It is a disservice to the person who gets picked IMO.

Can you imagine the conservative outrage if congress was even close to majority POC?  They'd lose their minds.  Heck, conservatives don't even want a national popular vote because "the cities would decide everything."  But it's perfectly ok to them if white males decide everything.

My guess is that he was picking from the party.  We know that about 92% of the black folks who vote, vote Democrat.  I'm willing to bet that the 8% make up virtually the entire Republican black constituency.  In that population group, you're probably talking of about less than 1% of the entire black population are Republicans.  There are 50 Republican Senators.  What's 1% of 50?  A half, right?  So there only needs to be 1 black Senator to give the Republicans TWICE the representation that fits their caucus.  When you only have a small percentage of the population to choose from, why would you think there's an abundance of candidates available to you?

The reality is they put this diversity hire in place to protect Schiff, a white male. The obvious choice was Barbara Lee who would have had an advantage during the next election.
