California police warn parents after child ingests THC-infused candy received at Halloween school event

Recommended Posts

It's not happening...

Police in California are warning parents to check their children’s candy during Halloween after a child reportedly fell ill from ingesting a THC-infused candy received at a local trick-or-treating event over the weekend.

The Alameda Police Department on Monday asked parents to "exercise extra caution and inspect your child’s Halloween candy" while they investigated an incident that required a child to seek immediate medical attention after consuming a cannabis candy.

I remember a kinder, gentler era of America where Leave It to Beaver and Bonanza were on T.V. and where you did not have to worry about marijuana in your kid's Halloween candy.  Back in the day we put pins and razor blades in the candy.  Now it's all fentanyl and marijuana.  Man how I long for the good ole days.

Wait until a bunch of kids die from Fentanyl overdoses.

It's really funny isn't it?

Lots of drug dealers out there giving away drugs.

I could use an introduction. I am particularly interested in meeting those who market Uncle Sigmund's Peruvian marching powder and Silly Cy & Ben's magic shrooms.

There are.

I keep hearing that every year before Halloween but nothing really happens.  Lots of fear mongering before but next to zero reports of it happening.

That's because parents are aware.

In all seriousness would be pretty easy for a parent to accidentally give out the wrong gummies. Doesn't hurt to spread awareness about the possibility.

I mean parents leave their kids in the car after forgetting to drop them off.

This is at least plausible.  Dealers giving out hard drugs is not plausible.  It hasn't been happening and isn't going to any time soon.

California police must be making it all up.

I mean. I would love to take the people in authority's word on everything. That being said it is super hard to do that when you see them blatantly lie to you.  Marijuana is still a schedule 1 drug. In the same class as LSD and HERION.  I am not saying there is not a risk for kids accidentally getting a gummy or a sucker that had THC in it. I am saying that is not being done on purpose. As a pot smoker of 30 years I can tell you without a doubt. NO ONE is giving your kids their weed.  Even if they did it would not result in the child being harmed even if they ate a THC infused sucker. That is nonsense.   I have never been a part of a halloween that did not include a scare tactic from the cops. Before it was razorblades in the candy. Now it is pot infused edibles. When it is all said and done this will be backpaged as a hoax and we will not talk about it again till next halloween. Rinse and repeat.

  • Thanks 1

The wrapper literally said cannabis on it.  As @Engorgeous George alluded to, parents have been urged to check their kids’ candy forever.

And big difference between marijuana and fentanyl…

Why are you sharing an unrelated story?

Yeah, that’s the complete opposite of “hiding it in Halloween candy”

I don't know why some people try to make it a thing every year.  Do they get joy by trying to stir up the public?

THC gummies were found with candy at a school event in California.  It's a singular event and there was no proof that it was intentionally done.

Just say you think they are lying. It's no big deal.

The "Trunk or Treat" event where the pot-infused candies are believed to have been handed out was held at Alameda's Amelia Earhart Elementary School on Sunday.

Why do you insist on making this something bigger than it is?  I'm not sure how you think I'm saying they are lying.

Oof. A broke and heavily addicted pot smoker of 30 years.

Not sure why you think the police shouldn’t make people aware. Are they saying not to do Halloween? Fear mongering.  Make your point without the silly hyperbole.

When did I direct anything towards the police?

Why did you say there is fear mongering going on? Are they exaggerating what happened? No.  They are swaying hey, this happened. Be on the lookout.  That constitutes fear mongering on your part?

Locals on the police facebook post seem to think it was probably an accident.   Apparently these things are $25 for a pack of 10.   Pretty expensive sampling strategy...

I said it because people do it every Halloween.  There's always some story about how people are giving out drugs to children and the public overreacts about it.  People post it on forums like this and on social media.

I never once said anything about the police.

Seriously, what the hell are you talking about?  I'm not talking about the police.  You're trying to make something out of nothing.

I have doubts that it happened.  The police are doing what they should, investigate and warn.

Seems odd that it was either an accident or intentional.  Maybe th parents are lying, or covering up.

What’s the overreaction? My kids and millions of others will be out trick or treating tonight. You want to make believe something is happening that isn’t so you can point your finger.
