People going into debt to buy groceries. I know the food pantry in my Parrish is quite busy and running low.  It was fine a few years ago.

Imagine if people couldn't use credit cards to buy groceries :o

Keep using those credit cards and living that lie. Chickens will come home to roost.

People living beyond their means, is this new?

You people can cry about the economy all you want but every metric points otherwise.  All the "facts" you bring up are nothing more than SOP for this country.

The economy is booming more bigly than at anytime in the last few decades.

And if you mention interest rates I'll note that rates at 3% are not normal and not healthy.  Where we're at now is much much better for economy.

Funny we don’t hear about “food insecurity “ much anymore. It just went away.

How Many People Lived in Food-insecure Households?

In 2022:

  • 44.2 million people lived in food-insecure households.
  • 11.7 million adults lived in households with very low food security.
  • 7.3 million children lived in food-insecure households in which children, along with adults, were food insecure.
  • 783,000 children (1.1 percent of the Nation's children) lived in households in which one or more child experienced very low food security.

You can guarantee it has gotten worse with inflation.

As far as I know, I’m the only middle class person here.  Can someone please tell me what middle class Joe Biden has done for the middle class? I’m not seeing it.

That's the sad part. The middle class is getting weeded out.

Biden hasn't done anything for the middle class.  When was the last time the middle class was really catered to by our government?

How is your tax break now?  The first year wasn't too bad but wasn't his tax plan going to lead to us paying more after a few years?

What's the metric basis behind the assumption of yours?

Gas prices are up?  Egg prices are up?

Have you looked around?  People are spending money like it's going out of style.  I'm in Sedona now, was in Sarasota earlier and it's nothing but wall to wall people.  You may want to aware folks who are spending like drunken sailors just how bad you think it is.

How’s the vacation going? Lol.

In Massachusetts,  the minimum household income to be considered middle class is $76,000.

I have that beat, but I don’t think I get into the next level up. So I say I’m in the middle. Just checked. I’m upper middle class.  Who knew? Doesn’t feel like it. Unless you count my assets. I don’t have a tiny house in some Shittburb of Baltimore and my Def comp account is plump.

Mortgage news this week - May 1, 2024

Mortgage rates rise, inch toward 7.5%

Mortgage rates ticked up this week, according to Bankrate’s national survey of large lenders. The spring homebuying season hasn’t been a cakewalk for buyers, as stubbornly-high inflation pins 7 percent mortgages and record home prices firmly in place. Fewer borrowers applied for mortgages this week, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association, and the Federal Reserve again announced it’s putting off rate cuts. (While the policymaker doesn't directly set mortgage rates, its decisions do influence their direction.) May also marks one of the best months for home sellers to garner the highest offers — another factor stacked against buyers.

FOMC

Quote

We have stated that we do not expect it will be appropriate to reduce the target range for the federal funds rate until we have gained greater confidence that inflation is moving sustainably toward 2 percent. So far this year, the data have not given us that greater confidence. In particular, and as I noted earlier, readings on inflation have come in above expectations. It is likely that gaining such greater confidence will take longer than previously expected. We are prepared to maintain the current target range for the federal funds rate for as long as appropriate.

Not so good new for the poors.

😂 27th consecutive month of unemployment below 4%. This is the longest stretch on record dating back 70 years.

This number astounds me, given that my employer is layoff hundreds, if not thousands almost every month/quarter.

While our CEO just gave himself another $4mm raise.

Someone is lying some where about unemployment.

Still "help wanted" and "now hiring" signs all over the place though.

That CEO is probably worth 270 times the average worker!
