I Am Really Feeling Old Reading This…45 Years Ago And 45 Albums

Recommended Posts

Wow, great list!  I was 12 in 1979, right in my formative pubescent years.  So much wonderful music back then.  :music_guitarred: 🎵 🎹

That was a great year. Funny I read a list of the best albums of 1984, a year where I had some money to buy them, and I had a lot more from 79 than 84.

From that list, I'd say my top were:

Eagles - The Long Run

Supertramp - Breakfast in America

Led Zep - In Through the Out Door

Pink Floyd - The Wall

I’m rare with this, but In Through The Out Door is my favorite Zep album.

Elvis Costello- Armed Forces didn’t make the list but it should have. Not his best, but pretty good.

It's ok pops, just keep rocking your Van Halen and AC/DC.   You are right, 0 good albums have come out since the 70s.  ;)

Also, as usual the GC jumps to the wrong conclusions.  You are old  because you are talking about rocking these albums when you were teens at the time.  I wasn't in kindergarten yet.

It's not because you dig obvious great albums like The Wall.  I just forget I'm probably a decade younger than most of you and I feel old on a daily basis.

The olds get grumpy when you remind they are that close to death, sheesh.

@BunnysBastatrds - I will answer your question.   Of course opinions are like a$$holes and all that, but you are the one that said an album better than "any" of the ones listed there.   You are really popping on those Blackfoot, Toto,  and The Tubes albums now?  Sorry there is a bunch of fluff on that list.    There are also some awesome albums.   I would say all these are all-timers:

Highway to Hell,  Fear of Music, Damn the Torpedos, and The Wall.

There are a handful of others that were very good.

So no, I won't go to bat for many albums post 2010.  First of all, I grumble a lot that the art of a great album has been lost a bit in the Spotify/singles era.   Off the top of my head, here are some albums that I would say are every bit better than 1/2 that list (again, IMO):

The Black Keys - Brothers or El Camino, Lord Huron - Strange Trails, Tool - Fear Inoculum, Arctic Monkeys - AM, Bowie - Blackstar,   If you like any metal there is a ton of albums I could list, even the old farts like Maiden are putting up great albums (Book of Souls),  Dinosaur Jr - Farm,  The Hold Stead - Boys and Girls In America,  The National - High Violet or Trouble Will Find Me,  there is a ton of great music out there.  That's just off the top of my head as I am not 100% sure on dates.   I've loved stuff by Spoon, Doves, Radiohead and others but that is more late 00s I think.
