Here’s an article from the Intercept on sentencing for the Jan. 6 rioters: Link . Only about half have been sentenced to any jail time, presumably those who did more than just enter the Capitol - assaulted cops, brought weapons into a federal building, made terroristic threats etc.

The Intercept was founded by Glenn Greenwald, who Republicans seem to like because he said bad things about Democrats. So maybe that helps.

Thanks for the info - I didn’t know he left the Intercept. I’m not a Greenwald reader either, just curious what the sentences looked like for the 1/6 rioters.

Short version according to the article is that only around 60% got any jail time at all. I’m assuming most of the people who did get jail time were charged with crimes other than simple trespassing.

Edit: The article also says that in 82% of convictions, judges issued lighter sentences than were recommended by prosecutors. That doesn’t seem unusual to me - just didn’t want you to think I care about that point.

Trespassing on the capital building to disrupt the ratification of the vote isn’t the same as trespassing on a construction site for shiits and giggles. If there’s some apples to apples evidence that the 1/6ers are getting harsher sentences for the same crime I’m willing to give it a look.

And walking in and sitting down is a protest.  It’s happened many many times.  Know what hasn’t happened many times?  MAGA animals breaking in and assaulting hundreds of cops while they take chits in our house because they’re deplorable animals.
