Lamar to flop today

The AFC is far more competitive with better teams than in the 80s when Elway went to his first 3 Superbowls. Lamar has had a much tougher road to travel.

Yeah. HFA and a playoff game against a rookie QB is a tough road.

@Fumbleweed @TBayXXXVII @nobody I think a couple others I was debating this with...

A post I found the month we drafted Mahomes

Watching Steve DeBerg, Dave Kreig, Steve Bono, Rich Ganon, Elvis Grbac, Tent Green, Damon Huard, Brodie Croyle, Tyler Thigpen, Matt Cassel, Tyler Palko, Kyle Orton, Brady Quinn, Alex Smith, Nick Foles and Chase Daniel all try, albeit a few with some tremendous teams built around them and never get it done, my opinion has changed to where I think you're continuously looking at the qb position until you have one of the top 7 or so leading your team.

My only exceptions to this has been Montana and Moon st the tail end of their careers, who you would probably consider both in the top 7 at the time.   Probably Trent as well.

I know I'm spoiled.   But honestly for the next 10 years or so, everyone is probably chasing the Chiefs :dunno:

They maybe realize Alex Smith probably isn't winning us a superbowl, unless you are elite basically across the board everywhere else.

Next level qbs can hide holes at other positions. I'm to the point where we need to find our elite level qb, and if you have to keep trying and trying and miss a couple times before you hit maybe that's not a bad thing.

Teams who find regular success seem to have one thing in common. Upper echelon consistency at the qb position. Alex Smith is good, but I don't think he is that. I hope we found our top level qb of the next decade

The 2003 Chiefs had probably the best offensive line ever assembled (Willie Roaf, Will Shields, Casey Wiegmann, Brian Waters & John Tait) with Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson running behind it with Tony G.  Lost to Peyton Manning.  But their D did suck.

The 90s Chiefs had some of the best defenses featuring guys Derrick Thomas, Neil Smith, Dale Carter and Dan Saleameau.  Good OL, Marcus Allen.  Couldn't ever get it done.

I probably started following them around 1991.  Between then and Mahomes ('17)  that's what 27 years? I count 16 winning seasons, and in all the times they did make the playoffs they had a playoff win in 91, two in '93, and didn't get their next until 2015.

From 1991 to 2017 I believe the Chiefs have a playoff record of 4-12.  And Mahomes is what, 14-3?  I get these guys don't just fall off trees, and he's the exception to the rule.  But it isn't like those other Chiefs teams, besides the QB position, were all that much less talented than the teams Mahomes has been leading to the promised land every year.

Yeah, I remember them not having much success, despite having some decent teams. Gonzo and Holmes the exception on O. a few good Ds. DThomas RIP. 4 - 12 over 26 yrs is not good. Mahomes w Kelce, Tyreek, Hunt at start, is better than most all the time.

I love Andy Reid, but I do feel kind of sorry for Marty Schottenheimer. He had great success with those Chief teams but never had a great QB. Imagine if he had Mahomes? It makes all the difference.

Bill Cowher same thing. Tremendous coach, but you can’t win the Super Bowl with Neil O’ Donnell very often (almost did though.) Or Kordell Stewart. Cowher didnt win until Big Ben came along.

You mean having the best QB is an advantage? You don’t say.

You don’t need the best QB. Roethlisberger was never the best QB in the league. You need an elite QB. There’s never more than 5-6 at any one time but you need to have one of those guys.

ETA- I think Purdy is an elite QB.

You imagined if he had Mahomes, the best qB. Very profound statement. Really makes you think.

I go to bed at 11. I’m fully asleep while you’re here, sobbing and tugging your warty pig while begging anonymous men for negative attention at 3-4 am like the lonely twink you are.

Absolute focking loser. Everyone hates Peefoam. :(

Keep trying Corky. One day maybe your mommy will let you even go outside without your safety helmet on.
