That's probably a pretty good comp. A one trick pony, home run hitter.

In one of my leagues we had a big bonus for TD plays over 40 and 50 yards. Desean Jackson had enough long TDs to be a top 3 WR one season.

yeah but all 3 had blazing speed.  one comp (Jackson) was able to put together a nice career as a top WR.  the other(Heyward Bey)  was never much more than a field stretching WR3 with the exeception of one season where he was a solid WR2 (975 yards receiving).

Yeah, I could have compared him to Mike Wallace too, but Desean Jackson is closer to the same size.

fair enough.  but they are the same type of player.    Their speed was what made them viable as an NFL player.

DeSean had the better hands.    Heyward Bey had better speed.

this kid has better speed than both of them though it is close.

It says in the scouting report he has pretty good hands. If that means NFL hands, yet to be seen.

One level for concern though, Desean Jackson was great at tracking the ball in the air, and catching it in stride, like Randy Moss, which is why he was such a good deep threat. That was listed as one of this guy's weaknesses.

yeah and on a Deep Ball you need that ability.   all that speed is no good if you cant track the ball.

that said, the NFL QB will be far more accurate than the college QB.  I have to think it wont be as big an issue at the NFL level if the ball is where it needs to be.

ok I just took a look at the ball tracking tape posted online here.   other than the one case that was listed as an example where he didnt track the ball, that ball was off by an awful lot.  its questionable if the ball was catchable.

it is possible that the WR didnt read it the same as the QB and was in the wrong location.  but if that's the case, that's not a ball tracking issue that's someone making the wrong read.

the other examples of ball tracking looked pretty solid.

in the end I think this kid will be a decent pro WR.    Granted given his size teams WILL try to jam him at the line, so given his size that is a risk factor for him.   a successful Jam at the LOS  likely makes him easy to control.    Thats where most of the risk is with this kid.

He'll be the 7th best WR. Behind Nabers, Odunze, McConkey, Thomas Jr., Harrison Jr., Adonai, of course.

Interesting stat on Worthy....

Led CFB in "wide open downfield and QB couldn't get it there" plays.

Hmmmm......

hes not a lock.  there are a lot of teams who dont like smallish WR as they can often be Jammed at the line at the NFL level.   some can overcome this but a lot never do.

I agree Buffalo might be a good landing place for him but they could easily go in a different direction.

Big Red just got himself Desean Jackson 2.0.... minus the south central gang ties and hopefully hamstring problems.  Yes, WRs to run 4.2's and get drafted in the 1st round have a horrible track record.  How many of them got drafted into a situation with Andy Reid calling the plays and Mahomes throwing the ball?  Ah yes, zero.
