Audie Murphy

Recommended Posts

Would have been 100 today, or maybe 99, I see different dates on different sites.

Audie Leon Murphy (20 June 1925 – 28 May 1971)[1] was an American soldier, actor, and songwriter. He was widely celebrated as the most decorated American combat soldier of World War II,[4] and has been described as the most highly decorated soldier in U.S. history.[5][6] He received every military combat award for valor available from the United States Army, as well as French and Belgian awards for heroism. Murphy received the Medal of Honor for valor that he demonstrated at the age of 19 for single-handedly holding off a company of German soldiers for an hour at the Colmar Pocket in France in January 1945, before leading a successful counterattack while wounded and out of ammunition.

This song is about him and shares the title with one of his movies.

And Jesus died for everyone’s sins, so they wouldn’t have to go to Hell.  Amazing Grace.

Amen.

Thanks.

I would pay to watch an accurate movie about him single-handedly holding off a company of German soldiers for an hour at the Colmar Pocket in France in January 1945, before leading a successful counterattack while wounded and out of ammunition.

I don’t know how accurate it is, but I believe that is in the movie To Hell and Back.

In the movie he shot the enemy soldiers all down the line of them in a bunker.

So he must have had a bump stock. 😆

Hollywood did him right. That generation all knew who he was and he became a movie star after the war.

I enjoyed To Hell and Back as a kid.  Of course I enjoyed Daktqari with Clarence the Cross-eyed Lion.  I mention it because his co-star in To Hell and Back starred in Daktari.

I visited Arlington Cemetary not long ago. I was looking out over the cemetery, looked down and right there was Audie Murphy's grave.

Also, Lee Marvin and Joe Louis are buried next to each other… Very special place.
