I agree with your analysis.  In the Comparatore matter he did the right thing, for selfish reasons.  Still, in the end, as it was the right thing that is something.

He's shown us what type of person he is for a very long time.  We know his character.  He constantly does or says something to make it about himself.  Honoring that man is the right thing to do but then Trump goes over and kisses the helmet to make about him.  He gets shot at and stops the SS so he can make a moment of it then they start putting out merchandise within a day.  He can't help but make everything about him.  If you dislike him as much as you say I would think it would be as obvious to you as it is to me.
