New YorkCNN —

Disney on Sunday pulled its ABC stations, ESPN and other cable networks from DirecTV’s lineup as the two companies failed to reach a new distribution deal, leaving millions of sports fans in the dark as the college football and NFL seasons get underway.

The expiration of an agreement between the two companies led to Disney-owned networks going dark for more than 11 million satellite subscribers ahead of Sunday night’s kickoff between the USC Trojans and LSU Tigers, midway through the US Open tennis tournament and days before the NFL season opener.

“The Walt Disney Co. is once again refusing any accountability to consumers, distribution partners, and now the American judicial system,” Rob Thun, chief content officer at DirecTV, said in a statement. “Disney is in the business of creating alternate realities, but this is the real world where we believe you earn your way and must answer for your own actions. They want to continue to chase maximum profits and dominant control at the expense of consumers - making it harder for them to select the shows and sports they want at a reasonable price.”

The FTC allowed way too much consolidation in the cable television industry over the past 30+ years.

Three companies (Disney, Paramount, & Warner Brothers/Discovery) own/control the vast majority of the channels available.

Hulu? But if all you are looking for is the MNF game, then ESPN+ is way way cheaper.  Does ESPN always play MNF?

Not I. Let them phail. It’s become a vapid wasteland of creativity. The biggest studios are destroying actual talent in writing, directing, producing, and Aactors.

The industry isn’t in a very good position. And now AI is going to be the most powerful instrument in this industry? The strike of the guilds wasn’t anything more than a protest against the powers that be. Denied,Denied, Denied!,, And why? We like sequels and superhero movies.

I wrote five scripts. One I got to LA thirty years ago. I had one hundred and eighty seconds to pitch my script out of a thousand participants. Made it to the final round.

The script was about four serial characters killers living in the Great Depression. Four were a white guy, a black slave, an Asian guy, and an Irish drunken lesbian girl named Salute. Salute moves into town and decides to rid the town of serial killers. Her being one, The sheriff is banging her and refusing to admit it she’s fawking over the death, plots her death on her. Salute does the unthinkable….

Now you can spend more time reading the Bible, When God closes a door He always opens another, with even a bigger blessing, besides if you need a nap, watch golf.

We all live to see a carriage standoff of networks and DirecTV. 🍿

DirecTV announced Saturday it had reached a deal with Walt Disney Co. that will restore ESPN and ABC-owned stations to its service after a nearly 2-week dispute that blacked out those networks for millions of viewers across the U.S.

The end of the impasse came in time for sports fans to watch ESPN’s slate of college football games on DirecTV. It also will ensure that ABC’s telecast of the Emmy Awards on Sunday night will be available in more major markets where viewers subscribe to DirecTV’s pay service.

ABC had been unavailable since Sept. 1 on DirecTV in several markets where the station is owned by Disney. Those were located in the San Francisco Bay Area; Fresno, California; New York; Chicago; Philadelphia; Houston; and Raleigh, North Carolina.

DirecTV’s 11 million subscribers abruptly lost access to ESPN, the ABC-owned stations and other Disney-owned channels such as FX and National Geographic during the Labor Day weekend in a dispute over carriage fees and programming flexibility.

Financial details of Disney’s new deal with DirecTV weren’t disclosed as part of Saturday’s announcement. DirecTV’s payments to Disney will be based on “market-based” pricing, according to the announcement about the deal.

The agreement also will give DirecTV the ability to offer Disney’s video streaming services a la carte as well as in its own bundled packages. DirecTV won the right to include ESPN’s forthcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service at an additional cost to its subscribers once it becomes available.

The deal came a few days after the rising tensions led DirecTV to file a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission accusing Disney of negotiating in bad faith.
