The problem is not the workers at the lower level or even the lower level leadership.   The problem is at the top and the structure of our institutions.   We created a country which had checks and balances between the Congress, the white house and the federal courts.  When we had a small government those checks and balances worked great.  

But what happened?  We created this army of bureaucracies inside the executive branch which has enormous powers over every individual and business in this country.  They can destroy anyone at anytime with millions of rules which they created that greatly expanded the actual laws that were passed legally by Congress. 

And the biggest problem is there is zero visibility or accountability.  A federal bureaucracy can target and abuse individual citizens and there is no recourse as the federal employee and agency enjoy immunity.  Congress can pull these agencies in hearings and they can continously stonewall claiming some sort of classification level or some endlessly on-going investigation, and there is nothing Congress can do, unless they defund the entire agency over it.  

Federal agencies are empowered to spy on anyone at anytime, freeze their accounts, raid their homes....and there is not a damn thing anyone can do unless the President himself comes to the rescue.  Good luck getting that.

It is absurd how much we have empowered these agencies and how there is no real constraints on what they can do.  Currently these abuses are targetter to Trump, pro-trump media, pro-trump supporters, and anti-establishment types.  So most people are OK.  The power structure is in place for totalitarianism, so with a flip of a switch all citizens can kiss what little remains of our constitutionally protected rights goodbye.  

Trump will make a dent into this corrupt power structure, but I doubt he will fix it.   He may even won't be able to resist the temptation to use it against those who have targetted him.  Biden has already taken this to a level we have never seen before.   He has spend vast resources targeting Trump, media, and protestors.   

Our country is not in a great place, but Trump at least offers some hope of putting some bandaids on....but our free society is on life-support.

You really need to ask that? If he would go to those lengths to stay in power, you don’t think he’d try some more shenanigans? What he did is disgraceful and disqualifying. He’s tried to shatter just about every norm he comes across, I can definitely see him pushing against the 2 term limit. Not saying he’d be successful, but do we really want to put ourselves through that? That’s a hard pass for me.

Yes it is. And I never justified a bunch of weakling assh0les causing disruption at the capital. There are plenty of videos showing no one took it seriously at the time. The security was just standing down opening the doors and setting it all up.

The over running of the Capital building was disorderly, it was in many instances riotous.  Did it rise to insurrection seeking through disruption to delay certification of an election, not in my mind.  There was no attempt to coopt the military or to achive command and control of the country, but it was close to insurrection in a few regards, including the hope by some that they could install new electors not properly approved of by their State's processes.  I think we need a new term and definition to define and describe what happened, something short of insurrection but beyond petulent acting out and rioting.  May I suggest the new term Trumpgasm to describe the event.
