President-elect Trump has threatened Mexico with a 25% tariffs on goods — unless it stops illegal crossings

The Mexican government is working hard to break up migrant caravans trying to make the treacherous journey north to the U.S. ahead of President-elect Trump’s inauguration in less than two weeks' time.

Faced with the prospect of massive tariffs on goods under the new administration, Mexico has been dispersing migrants throughout the country to keep them far from the U.S. border, including dropping them off at the once vibrant tourist hotspot of Acapulco, a beach resort town on Mexico's Pacific coast made famous by the jet set in the 1950s and ’60s.

Once a crown jewel of Mexico's tourism industry, the city now suffers under the thumb of organized crime and is still struggling to climb back after taking a direct hit from powerful Hurricane Otis in 2023. It now has one of Mexico's highest rates of homicides.

Wrong.  Among the reasons they have dropped is that Gov. Abbott defied the federal government and installed his own barricades along the most active parts of his border.  it turns out that doing so was a major deterence.    It signaled the end of open illegal immigration.  Perception, expectations, they are everything in this issue.  WE need to advertise that the borders are closed, that the trip is expensive, fraught with peril of rape and enslavement, and ultimately will result not at a free stay in a N.Y. hotel, but internment at the border before relocation back to one's country of origin where that country's government will then know that person fled the country.

 I went Acapulco when I was eighteen on a family vacation with family. Cool Pops asked me, Acapulco or Disney? I didn’t think twice and said “Acapulco!!!”. Got there and everyone loved it. When deep sea fishing, saw the cliff divers, and some incredible Mexican food. It was my first trip out of,the country. Now it’s complete disaster.
