Your own link suggests nothing was set in stone: Quote Part of his job is purchasing and selling grain, like the sorghum taking up much of the space in the co-op's grain elevators. Sometimes, that has meant selling to Food for Peace when there are calls for contracts. "We were hoping there'd be another one with as much milo as we have," Barnes said. Sounds like they farmed too much and were HOPING to sell it via USAID IF there was a need for it. Doesn't sound like there was a deal in place in advance. This is weak sauce even for you. How about we discuss it, and decide whether this should be done, and if not, how to wean off of it instead of abruptly shutting things down and hurting a lot of industry and people? Again I am not opposed at all to many of things that Trump and Musk are doing here. I’m opposed to the way they’re doing them. I think it’s being done too quickly, without thought or planning, and the results will be chaotic and create much unnecessary pain IMO. Again, your model is the previous method: a committee to form a committee to form subcommittees to spend millions of dollars and months of time to generate a report that would never amount to any actual actions. I'm interested to see how this approach works on a titanic organization like the government. Unfortunately, some good causes suffer along the way, hopefully temporarily. As I heard one person say, if you spend $40B, you are likely to accidentally stumble into providing some good, no matter how big of a boondoggle it is. The Real timschochet 6,406 Posted February 11 Look it’s going to happen anyhow within the limits of the law. I think some of this is going to be stopped by the courts because there are contracts involved and Congress will have a say as well. But in the long run, even if it takes a few months rather than a few days, USAID is going to be gone. Democrats can’t stop it. So we will see if this turns out to be a good thing. I have strong doubts but we’re going to find out.

I don’t like “either-or choices”. If Trump had said “I’m appointing Elon Musk to study these agencies, and after 3 months he’s going to recommend a series of cuts, and I am ordering him to focus on cutting wasteful spending but keeping all the good stuff, and then we are going to submit it to Congress for approval since I don’t have the power to do this myself” I would have been fine with that. Thats the way this should be done.

Tebok 301 Posted February 12 This USAID shutdown is tragic. Millions are going to die from starvation and disease, and outbreaks of ebola and marbug China will swoop in to pick up the slack and compromise our world influence. This is not what America is about. https://thebulletin.org/2025/02/how-the-shutdown-of-usaid-will-hurt-americans-and-empower-foreign-adversaries/ Quote Some officials fear that the closure of USAID could slow the response to ongoing outbreaks of Ebola in Uganda and Marburg virus in Tanzania. USAID and the CDC collaborated in 2022 on a successful effort to limit the spread of an Ebola outbreak in Uganda.

Voltaire 5,182 Posted February 12 Dems have to criticize everything Trump does. It's just so compelling. That's why they're all enthusiastically strapping themselves in on the losing side of popular issues like secure borders, fighting wasteful spending, government surveillance and censorship, tranny bullsh*t, DEI, lawfare, and on and on.
