It’s capitalism. Companies profit & hire more people, consumers get cheap goods & save more for the family or the future. More trade happens, more people get hired, revenues increase, stocks increase, the government makes more from taxes, people get stuff. I just see wins here. I listed conflicting things. You pick one of them and choose to disect. You cant claim that jeff bezos is a thieving oligarch that is in bed with trump and doesnt pay living wages and pays no taxes and has too much stock and oh noes buybacks, buybacks, then also be upset that he may lose his source for cheap stuff and advocate on behalf of trickle down philosophy. I can’t speak for liberals but my guess is they’d say he owns too many corporations. And I agree the WaPo should not be influenced by what Amazon needs. But as for Amazon, I’m not a customer but a good chunk of maga is. I don’t get why adding taxes on them is good for them, other consumers, Amazon, retail or anyone. This is easy to answer and it’s not a question of being liberal or conservative, it’s a fact of economics. Bezos doesn’t pay the tax, he passes it on to the consumer. The Amazon buyer pays the tax, not Bezos.

Sean Mooney 1,944 Posted 23 hours ago 8 minutes ago, Alias Detective said: Decisions such as? They extended employee pricing on cars but said that will change by the end of the summer. They are also basically saying expect prices for certain vehicles to get higher. Most estimates are that it would take- conservatively- 2 years to get a new plant up and running or to reopen a shuttered plant. By that time we are talking almost summer of 2027 when we are into the early stages of campaign season for the 2028 presidential election and perhaps the landscape of politics is different after the 2026 mid terms. Why would any company be rushing to sink billions of dollars into a facility if they think things could change in the future? Instead they can just say "Oh well we have 3,000 in tariff charges- we will just raise the price of the vehicle 5,000 dollars."

The Real timschochet 6,446 Posted 23 hours ago So the good news this morning is that Bessant is flying to Switzerland to meet with Chinese officials. Now China has said that there will be no serious negotiation until America unilaterally lowers our new tariffs: in other words, surrender. Bessent this morning: “I would caution against any deals emerging from these talks right away; first we need to de-escalate” “De-escalate” sure sounds like Trump is willing to unilaterally lower the tariffs, exactly what China is demanding. Which makes one wonder what was the point of this entire, incredibly stupid exercise? Nonetheless let’s hope it happens.

"Sticky pricing" is a real problem. Every year I have this debate inside my company regarding seasonal commodities. Product managers all about passing on increases.
