I can’t speak for liberals but my guess is they’d say he owns too many corporations. And I agree the WaPo should not be influenced by what Amazon needs. 

But as for Amazon, I’m not a customer but a good chunk of maga is. I don’t get why adding taxes on them is good for them, other consumers, Amazon, retail or anyone.

This is easy to answer and it’s not a question of being liberal or conservative, it’s a fact of economics. Bezos doesn’t pay the tax, he passes it on to the consumer. The Amazon buyer pays the tax, not Bezos.

So the good news this morning is that Bessant is flying to Switzerland to meet with Chinese officials. Now China has said that there will be no serious negotiation until America unilaterally lowers our new tariffs: in other words, surrender. 

Bessent this morning: “I would caution against any deals emerging from these talks right away; first we need to de-escalate” 

“De-escalate” sure sounds like Trump is willing to unilaterally lower the tariffs, exactly what China is demanding. Which makes one wonder what was the point of this entire, incredibly stupid exercise? Nonetheless let’s hope it happens.

I think Johnny Utah is trying to make the case that when you raise corp taxes then corp will just pass that tax onto the consumer, the same way with tariffs.

His reply was as if I had asked him if taxes raised prices.

Yes. Democrats are always naming and shaming companies and CEOs and wanting to bump up taxes. 

Incidence of taxation will never be an absolute direct path, but generally speaking taxes raise prices.

It's obvious we have a wealth gap.  It's also clear that Corp tax cuts do not result in cheaper consumer prices.  Trickle down economics doesn't work.  There is no magic pill.

Wealth gap is a nonsense term.

But you are right that tax cuts dont result in price cuts. But tax increases do result in cost increases. "Sticky pricing" is a real problem. 

Every year I have this debate inside my company regarding seasonal commodities. Product managers all about passing on increases. Get greedy when the decreases happen.
