Trump Orders Troops In Armored Vehicles To Texas National Park

Recommended Posts

🏆 The U.S. Military has deployed a slew of troops and armored vehicles to the United States-Mexico border in West Texas, including inside Big Bend National Park, under the order of President Donald Trump. Hundreds more are on the way as part of the Trump administration's efforts to reduce illegal immigration at the Southern border

Deployment to the West Texas region began on March 13, with about 200 troops from the Army's 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colo. already on the ground. That number is expected to reach about 500 in the coming weeks, Army officials announced at a news conference last week, according to Marfa Public Radio. The number of armored combat vehicles, known as Strykers, was not disclosed. The eight-wheeled vehicles can carry up to 11 people and reach a top speed of 60 miles per hour, according to the U.S. Army.

It seemed like a bad idea because when I read "National Park" I was imagining trees and streams and wildlife.

Then I saw that terrain, it is barren and looks like nothing can damage it, so not a big deal. Regardless, I wouldn't think armored vehicles could accomplish anything more useful than Humvees could. I guess you can fit more people in them. Patrol with Humvees, load them up in these.

Big Bend is the most remote, unforgiving place I've ever been to. You can't even get a radio station out there.

Just about every plant and animal is built to fock with you, and it's the desert, much of it rocky terrain, crawling with rattlesnakes, centipedes, scorpions and other critters. There are mountain lions and bears, and even the wild pigs will attack your ass if they feel like it. I narrowly dodged rattlesnake strikes twice while walking on easy trails.

It's like 100 miles between the border and the nearest town, which is Marathon, and hot as fock in the summer.

There are no vehicle crossings to smuggle over illegal aliens.

About the only Mexicans who wade across the Rio Grande here either set up stands for fruit juice and trinkets on the U.S. side or hide in the brush awaiting a chance to steal sh!t out of the backs of hikers' pickup trucks. They stole a bottle of Jack Daniels out of my pickup truck, which I thought was hilarious.

This deployment is just another Trump display, just like stupidly deporting people on C-130s when there are far less expensive aircraft that could be used.

I'm sure our military is more than capable of defeating Big Bend.

I backpacked and camped here in college for about a week. They boast it is one of the quietest places on Earth. I believe it.

At that time you could cross the river and go to a little town for beers.

Didn’t have much trouble with stuff trying to mess with us except for a pack of Javelinas. Mean little fockers!

Yeah, they put in a border patrol station that you have to get through with a passport to go to that little town.

One time that me and two buddies went, we slept on cots out under the stars, and I awoke in the middle of the night to a coyote sniffing my face.

Another night, a pack of those javelinas just wandered into our camp and took over the place. We stood on the picnic tables while they rooted around and got in fights with each other. It was a bit terrifying, particularly when they made this hair-raising teeth-gnashing sound.

Another time I went, this dude with backpack full of radio equipment came by, pointing some kind of detector into the brush.

He said he was tracking mountain lions, and I asked if they were like 500 yards away, and he said, "No, there's one in that bush 50 feet away. You'll never him, though."

😲

Exactly.

This deployment of armored vehicles is all for show, as usual, to make the MAGA folks think that he is serious and is accomplishing something in his roundup of the undocumented.

Remote enough we can deport them, make them disappear, the easy way.

Hell, you can off them where they stand and let their bones litter the landscape as a reminder for decades into the future. Love this move.

Uhm...no.  That's not what we do as a civilized society.  Let's just send them back home.

Cool. Lay out the easy-peasy logistics of deporting illegals out of Big Bend.

The closest major airport is more than 200 miles away in Midland, and Trump isn't going to look all awesome shipping them out on a Cessna at some podunk West Texas airport that's closer.

🤣

We can put a broken statue of Obama out in the waste as a reminder of the liberal fail.

Have to be.  Digging in that caliche is hard work. Juust get then down a foot or so and pile some rocks on to try to keep the javelinas out.  Or appreciate that buzzards have to eat too.
