The argument IS “ha ha look at Musk disagreeing with Republicans,” not “using his words to bolster their argument.” I don’t usually read CNN, but I read the article you linked and don’t see anything wrong with it. It pretty much just lists a bunch of Musk’s quotes and other quotes from people that disagree with him, adding that the White House was “caught off guard by Musk’s harsh remarks.” So definitely seems like with more of the “ha ha look at Musk disagreeing with Trump” angle.
