nobody 2,641 Posted Tuesday at 10:38 PM I'm listening to a podcast called "this is football" by Kevin Clark. I like clark because he makes sharp points. I rarely hear him say things like, "it just is" which is the hallmark signal to me that someone is either unprepared or doesn't know what they are talking about. Anyway, he's got Allen Robinson on and they're talking about what he learned from Sean mcvay who I grant is probably an actual genius, but listening to Robinson, one of the things mcvay did to revolutionize the game was make defenses defend multiple options. Robinson talks about how he has the receivers line up such that the spacing doesn't allow the defense to eliminate route possibilities and he gave the example of having outside receivers line up more inside so the defense has to defend out routes (obviously if you're very far outside, you don't have room to run an out). That's smart of course, but my question is this? Are football coaches retarded? Why haven't teams always made an effort not to tip their routes? Why haven't they always disguised the play with multiple plays off of same formations? To me, this is obvious stuff. Why wouldn't teams always do it? I literally built playbooks in Madden that were made to disguise plays back when I was in high school.
nobody 2,641 Posted Tuesday at 10:43 PM Also Allen Robinson could probably be on these football shows. He talks ball in a cool way and he comes off like he really loves it even though he's not some kind of take-smith. What I guess I mean is he doesn't talk like we the mainstream guys do where everything is dumbed down or controversial. It's just, they did this, so we want to do this. This guy is good because he did this and this and this, etc. Very cohesive with his points and it's good stuff that isn't cliche everyday knowledge.
JagFan 157 Posted yesterday at 07:51 AM I’m not really sure what your point is with this? Have you ever heard of an option route? I’m not going to explain it…google it. There was also a guy named Mike Martz that designed an offense where Kurt Warner would throw the ball to an open space on the field and one of his WRs (Bruce, Holt) would find that space vs running a specific route. The real game isn’t like a video game where the players run exact routes and the WR with a 99 rating always catches the ball when he’s covered by the DB with a 76 rating as long as his energy level is above 80%.

And if you hear Robinson talk, that was a new concept for Robinson which implies they didn't do that on the other teams he played for.

Indeed, it's very obvious you aren't sure what my point is considering none of this is even relevant. And who doesn't know what an option route is? Come on, man. nobody 2,641 Posted 11 hours ago Did you guys know that mcvay doesn't even run that many plays. They basically run the same x number of plays just out of different formations. These coaches in the NFL or so dumb, it wasn't only the spacing of the routes that were giving away plays, apparently they aren't even smart enough to just lineup a little differently when running the same concepts so the defense doesn't recognize what's coming. I know most of these coaches played the game at some level. They didn't try to pick up on tendencies when they were playing? I guess that makes sense. I mean when auburn had cam newton, I remembered them running qb draw the exact same way like 5 times on one drive. And the chargers always ran inside draw off the left tackle with eckler for years from the 5 yard line and know one ever seemed to realize it. He must've scored on that play 25 times in his career.
