U.S. completes strikes on Iran nuclear sites, Trump says

The U.S. military has joined with Israel to launch military strikes against Iran, a dramatic escalation in the years-long effort by both nations to prevent Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

"We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan," President Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday.

"All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE! Thank you for your attention to this matter."

Trump said in a subsequent post that he would address the nation at 10 p.m. ET.

Leader Jeffries:

"Donald Trump promised to bring peace to the Middle East. He has failed to deliver on that promise."

"President Trump misled the country about his intentions, failed to seek congressional authorization for the use of military force and risks American entanglement in a potentially disastrous war in the Middle East."

Tonight, the President ignored the Constitution by unilaterally engaging our military without Congressional authorization.

I join my colleagues in demanding answers from the Administration on this operation which endangers American lives and risks further escalation and dangerous destabilization of the region.

Oh noes!!!

“President Joe Biden ordered multiple airstrikes without congressional approval during his administration. Notable instances include:

- February 2021, Syria: Biden authorized airstrikes on facilities used by Iran-backed militias in eastern Syria, in response to rocket attacks on U.S. targets in Iraq. The Pentagon described these as "proportionate" and aimed at de-escalation, but some Democrats, like Sen. Tim Kaine, criticized the lack of congressional approval, arguing it was unconstitutional absent extraordinary circumstances.

- June 2021, Syria-Iraq Border: Biden ordered strikes on Iran-backed militia facilities after drone and rocket attacks on U.S. forces. The administration cited Article II of the Constitution and self-defense under the UN Charter, but critics like Sen. Chris Murphy argued repeated strikes could constitute a "pattern of hostilities" requiring congressional authorization under the War Powers Act.

- January 2024, Yemen: Biden ordered airstrikes on Houthi targets in response to attacks on Red Sea shipping. The administration informed Congress but did not seek approval, citing self-defense and the 2001/2002 AUMFs. Progressive Democrats, including Reps. Ro Khanna and Cori Bush, and some Republicans like Sen. Mike Lee, condemned this as a violation of Article I, which grants Congress the power to declare war.

- December 2023, Iraq: Biden ordered retaliatory strikes on Kataib Hezbollah sites after a drone attack injured U.S. servicemembers. The administration justified this under inherent self-defense powers, but it faced criticism for bypassing Congress.

These actions reflect a broader trend where presidents, including Biden, rely on Article II powers as Commander-in-Chief or existing AUMFs (post-9/11) to justify military actions without congressional approval. Critics argue this stretches constitutional limits, while supporters claim it’s within the president’s authority for defensive or limited operations. The War Powers Resolution of 1973, intended to check such actions, is often ignored or interpreted broadly by administrations.

Why would any nation, now, trust diplomacy? Iran agreed to curb its nuclear programme in 2015 – Trump wrecked the deal in 2018. Iran signed up to a round of talks, only to be bombed by Israel two days before.

Iran agreed to negotiate with the European 3 – the US bombed them two days later.

BREAKING: Iranian parliament has just voted to close the Strait of Hormuz.

- 20% of global oil passes through the Strait HERE’s what to expect if successful:

- Oil Prices could spike by 30–50%+ almost immediately

- Global Inflation likely Rises

- U.S. Gas Prices likely Skyrocket. Potential $5–$7/gallon range depending on duration

- Military Escalation Risk. U.S. Navy and allies likely to respond

- Tanker delays affect oil, LNG, and related goods

Thanks Trump.

I might suggest that AOC's understanding of the Constitution and the War Powers Act is limited.  I understand, however, that she makes a decent Old Fashion.

BTW, my questioning of AOC's acumen does not mean that I am untroubled by the over 50 year question which was never definitively resolved by congress on War Powers.  Just one of many subjects they ought to have taken up and resolved but which they leave unaddressed while proposing red meat legislation for their constituents or proposing trap legislation for the other party prior to elections.  They ought to address war powers right after addressing immigration, comprehensively.

I hear operation Cialis was considered and then rejected.  Too bad, they missed a sponsorship opportunity.
