Brianna Wu: If I were in charge of the trans movement...

1)  Gotta be honest, she doesn't look like what I'd expect a "Wu" to look like.

2)  I don't do Instagram so can't find the link to the full interview.  Would love to watch it if possible if you've got the link.

I think she's married to a Wu.

Here is a longer excerpt from that clip:

Quote

I just felt like myself. I actually didn’t talk about it. I tried to dodge it as much as I could through most of my career because I didn’t want to be defined by this one thing. I just wanted to go on living my life. I think, actually, one of the biggest mistakes trans people make is making being trans the center of your life. One of the core problems is that my generation went and transitioned and then just went on with our lives as fast as we could, some better than others. But to the best of our ability, we moved on, and we left the leadership to a set of people that, I’m just going to be honest, I think they’re frauds. I think they’re immature. I think they are marching us off a cliff. I think they are turning ciswomen into our biggest enemies. They are creating terfs right and left. They’re using language to erase women.

Why do you keep calling a man she and her?

A few reasons, none of which you'll agree with.

1.  I believe a small subset of trans people have gender dysphoria.  Brianna pre-dates the social contagion, when trans people who medically transitioned were thoroughly vetted to have the disease.

2. She also medically and surgically transitioned, so she presents as a she.  We can argue whether or not people should do this, or if we should instead work on addressing the mental illness (I've made this latter argument multiple times).  But, she did it.

3. As my quote indicated, she's just trying to live out life, not inject herself into women's sports etc.

Given all of the above, I'm comfortable calling Brianna she/her.  I don't believe she is some sexual predator guy looking to rape girls in the bathroom; she doesn't even have a cack anymore.

Someone like Leah Thomas meets none of the criteria I listed, so I'm fine referring to Leah as he/him.

I mean, I think that is sort of answered by the things she addresses before making that comment.

Since you accuse me of doing this I’m sure you’ll provide an example of when I’ve done it.

it's my opinion and my guess. I can edit my statement if it makes you feel better.  I don't have time to sift through all of your posts on social issues but I feel certain there are instances where you have referenced or directly quoted someone from a particular group when supporting your stances.

Gun thrown, this is stupid. You play along with them and buy into this bullsh!t. It all goes back to what chromosomes you have. You’re either a man or a man and you can’t change it, end of story.  Weak minded men like you are the reason this is even a problem nowadays.. with men competing in women’s sports and all the other nonsense that is going on. Grow a pair.

I'll take that as a no.  Just figuring out where your convictions end.  Also, I've been the biggest opponent of men in women's sports on this bored.  You contribute nothing but hate, the least you could do is try to do it accurately.

Not really.   You tried a "gotcha" with the focking question because yes, the answer is yes, it makes you ghey.  But sexual preference is different than all the gender identity stuff, so the question really has nothing to do with what he chooses to call this person.

I personally feel that trans is people playing make believe. Yet if I interact with someone I am going to call them she/her/miss etc or he/him/sir etc based on what I think they look like. I'm not the least bit concerned with not calling them their preferred pronouns, my point is I'm going to call them something and I may get it wrong compared to their biological sex. Doesn't make me ghey. I would also call this person a she if I just had a passing interaction. My reasoning is not as nuanced as Jerrys but I think it's fairly easy to understand unless someone needs to be purposely insensitive just for the sake of it.

I don't care and am not talking about specific people who will never be satisfied, nor am I claiming that the rest of her statement covers EVERY main hot button issue regarding trans.

My point was that you cherry picked their last statement about what the conversation can change to while leaving out the fact that the very person who made the statement has just finished explaining a list of things that they feel would help get us to that point.

FWIW, my reasoning was for how I refer to people in discussions like this, not to their face.  To their face, I'm pretty much what you describe.  I'll respect the gender they choose if I know about it, or go by presentation otherwise.

I've told the story before, but my daughter was in HS Theater, and a lot of those kids are from the island of misfit toys.  One was a boy named Jordan who decided he was a girl named Dani (interesting that he picked a male-sounding name).  Dani didn't terribly present as a girl, so you would call him a him if you saw him.  But out of respect for him and my daughter, I referred to him as she/her.

I call him a him now because he later decided he was a boy after all.  See, Jordan came from a shiot home life, and the trans thing was a cry for attention.  Many of the leftists here tell me this is unpossible, that experiences and situations can't make someone trans.  My life experience begs to differ.  It's a big part of why I am so adamant against confused kids getting medical/hormonal treatments.

Did Dani/Jordan get any medical/hormonal treatments?

Not that I'm aware of.  If I implied that, it was a mistake.

I'll also add that in the case of Brianna, I've only known of her as Brianna, not when she was Brian or whatever her original name was.  I first heard of her when she did a rebuttal to J.K. Rowling's interview series on The Free Press regarding trans people (also published there).  I didn't agree with many of her points, but she presented them intelligently.

oh, 100%.  I was dating a woman who had 2 younger daughters. and the oldest... maybe middle school at the time had a they/them friend. I recently ran into her and now that the kid is in high school she is back to being a she.

There are so many cases of either cries for attention, or that it has become socially trendy to be "different" while ironically doing it to be the same as what you see others doing. The simple idea of pronouns became trendy.  I can refer to someone and never use a pronoun, just use their name.

Thanks for transitioning this to your obsessive stalking of Riley Gaines.  Any chance you can move this to the softball thread?

It's because he's so wrong, that he needs to get someone to latch on to a straw man argument that he concocts, so that he can say, "So I'm right?".
