Gerrymandering

Trump now wants the FBI to get involved to help Texas steal congressional seats.

Another example of authoritarianism and it will back fire against the public.

I'm not going to bother with what-aboutism, it's wrong.  It makes it nearly impossible for people to remove a badly performing elected party and it needs to end.

But, you are wrong as usual. And as I pointed out earlier, operation REDMAP was in 2010, something else you managed to avoid reading.

Yeah, sorry, but your not going to convince me - OR ANYONE - that CA put together a "independent" commission.  GTFO.

And, again, your fake concern while your team already has their gerrymandered districts in place is hilarious.  I would say you START complaining about those in place districts first before you start pointing fingers.  Once you and your side clean up your house, then I'll accept your fake concern.

Are you concerned with your side doing it?

Of course he's not, it's the Maga way.  Someone at some point in history has done something wrong, therefore we're justified in doing wrong stuff too.  Terrible way of living.

@EternalShinyAndChrome’s hypocrisy is so weird.  He does this in multiple threads.  Whatabouts to a comparison about democrats doing something, but never actually says whether or not that thing is bad.

They support whatever can further the MAGA agenda, regardless of how hypocritical, ridiculous and straight-up wrong it might be.

Yeah it's odd.  You have your die hard magas that gargle trumps balls, but he doesn't really do that, he just says how bad democrats are.  He even claimed that he didn't vote for Trump.

It’s worse than that. He never offers any evidence that the other side is committing the act. When challenged about that he does what he did here: laughs it off and says something like “we all know what they did”, puts “independent” in quotes, etc. His whataboutisms are never actually backed by facts.

Well we know Dems have gerrymandered, and yes it’s bad when they do it too.  I’m not familiar enough with the “independent commission” thing to comment about it, but yes @EternalShinyAndChrome does stuff like laughing things off, and when asked to clarify what he means will deny or ignore it.

Also, twice in the past 5 years Democrats have tried to ban gerrymandering nationwide and republicans stopped it.

So while history shows both sides have done, recent history show Democrats oppose gerrymandering and Republicans are for it.

Obviously the public is with the democrats.

Based on recent Scotus decisions, I think it will require a constitutional amendment to end this abuse.

And while we are doing that, let's end the electoral college too, which outlived it's reason for existence when slavery ended. We could call it the Free and Fair Elections Amendment.

This. Majority wins. Can't win the popular vote? You lose the election. Simple.

WTF you talking about?  I offered up Illinois and CA as an example, but there's more.

If there is one thing worse than your predictions, it's your gaslighting and complete ignorance.

Will you admit it’s bad when either side does it?

For the people Act, 2019 and 2021, both times passed the democratic led house, failed in the senate by Republican fillibuster

Freedom to vote Act, 2021, passed the democratic led house, failed in the senate by Republican fillibuster.

Simple answer, Republicans.

They should add more seats to the House.  The representation of Congressmen to Number of Constituents has gotten way out of line; nothing like it was envisioned by the Founding Fathers.

What federal laws have been broken that would involve the FBI?

Flag: Republican John Cornyn says the FBI has agreed to his request to help track down the Texas state Democrats who left the state to block a severely gerrymandered congressional map.

But no Epstein files.

Nice to see Republicans care more about taking away votes from brown and black people than justice for child rape victims.

Figure I'll put this here since it seems relevant:

Trump orders new census excluding undocumented immigrants

President Donald Trump on Thursday demanded work begin on a new census as redistricting battles are spreading across the country.

In a social media post, Trump announced he directed the Commerce Department to "immediately begin work on a new and highly accurate CENSUS based on modern day facts and figures and, importantly, using the results and information gained from the Presidential Election of 2024."

"People who are in our Country illegally WILL NOT BE COUNTED IN THE CENSUS," Trump added.

The U.S. Census Bureau says it "collects data from all foreign born who participate in its censuses and surveys, regardless of legal status" and has done so for its 235-year history. The data determines how the 435 House seats are divided among the 50 states every 10 years.

Trump's announcement on Thursday comes amid a showdown in Texas over a proposed congressional map that, if enacted, could net Republicans between three and five U.S. House seats in next year's midterm elections.

With control of the U.S. House potentially at stake, blue-state Democrats are vowing to respond in kind should Texas Republicans succeed in changing their map.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and California Gov. Gavin Newsom said they will explore ways to gerrymander their maps. Both states currently use independent commissions to draw their maps following constitutional amendments.

MORE: How redistricting in Texas and other states could change the game for US House elections

More Republican governors, too, are exploring possibly redrawing congressional maps ahead of the 2026 elections given the GOP's razor-thin margins in the House. Democrats would need to only net three seats next November to win back the House.

Vice President JD Vance is visiting Indiana on Thursday to discuss redistricting and other topics with Republican leaders.

Trump in his first term attempted to change the U.S. census to exclude noncitizens. In 2019, the Supreme Court ruled that Commerce Department's attempt to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census violated federal law.

I think we should count them, since knowledge is power, but we absolutely should NOT include them in determining congressional seats.

Then you’ll have to change the Constitution. “Whole Persons” has never been limited to citizens.
