Trump deploying the National Guard to the streets of Washington D.C

BREAKING:

D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb is suing Trump over his executive actions asserting control over the D.C. police department and attempting to install an emergency police commissioner. Schwalb called it the "gravest threat to Home Rule that the District has ever faced."

Schwalb: "The United States and the Attorney General of the United States are trying to illegally engage in a hostile takeover of our Metropolitan Police Department that violates the law and it puts the people of the District of Columbia, the visitors and residents of the District of Columbia at risk."

Why this move is so scary.

https://www.vox.com/politics/458215/trump-dc-deployment-national-guard-absurd

Quote

Trump’s show of force in DC is both cartoonish and ominous, farcical and dangerous.

It serves to normalize abuses of power that could very well be expanded — in fact, that Trump himself is openly promising to try it out in other cities. However, both the DC deployment and Trump’s prior National Guard misadventure in Los Angeles show that it’s actually quite hard to create effective tools of domestic repression. Executing on his threats requires a level of legal and tactical acumen that it’s not obvious the Trump administration possesses.

Or, put differently: The power they’re claiming is scary in the abstract, but the way they’re currently wielding it is too incompetent to do meaningful damage to democracy. The key question going forward — not just for DC, but the nation — is whether they get better with practice.

A dude on Facebook posted a meme that said:

Someone help me understand.
Democrats are rioting in DC because they don’t want less crime??

Me: Can you provide a link?

Him: Google it friend.

Crazy MAGA Lady: You're not watching the correct media outlets. Liberal run stations won't show you what's really going on.

Me: You're assuming I watch whatever you think I watch. I see peaceful protests but no violence. Maybe whatever you watch is calling them riots. I'm just trying to find an unbiased, facts-based source covering these so-called D.C. riots. Can you please provide a link?

Him: The Google search will bring up all media sites so you pick the one you want to see or believe.

Me: Just link me to what you're seeing. Thanks friend.

CML: I'm not assuming anything. It's obvious that if you want links, that you haven't seen the footage.

Me: Awesome! Link me to what you're seeing so I can see the footage, please!

CML: No.

Me: I guess that's because there isn't one, and there are no riots going on in D.C. Wherever you're getting your information must be lying there therefore not to be trusted. Here is a link to what came up when I Googled "D.C. riots." The top thing was a YouTube link to non-violent protests, which the Constitution protects. No riots as far as I can tell.

CML: You can keep your head in the sand if you choose. If you were unbiased as you claim, you would know what's really going on and wouldn't be asking others to supply you links.

Me: You believe there are riots in D.C. but refuse to provide a source for your information, which pretty much puts your credibility at zero. I provided a link to peaceful protests. But if you really want to get crazy, a guy did get charged with throwing a sandwich, so I guess D.C. is burning! LOL!

CML: I watch the news, so keep hiding your head in the sand!

Me: Help me get my head out of the sand by linking me to news you are watching to see footage of the riots that liberal media and MSM are ignoring.

It's like trying to argue with a brick. Trump's America!

A group of House and Senate Democrats — led by Rep. Jamie Raskin — have introduced a joint resolution that would put an end to Trump's control of D.C.’s police force.

"Trump has made clear that his efforts in D.C. ... are part of a broader plan to militarize and federalize the streets of cities around America whose citizens voted against him."

I have zero issue with this. People should not be able to camp out in public parks.

They won't go to shelters because they are not allowed to drink or do drugs. If they're caught with drugs or alcohol they are banned from that location.

That's why they refuse help. I don't feel sorry for any of them. There's help for everyone if you want it.

This shouldn't be controversial but there will be some against it.  The real question is why don't lib.politicians do it?  Why does it take someone like Trump to do it?

  • Thanks 1

They did this in my city which is as liberal as it gets in many areas. The thing is homeless people will always be a thing and they pop up in other spots because they have to go somewhere.

This will happen again in DC. They are just moving stuff around and taking pictures. I don’t have an issue with this, it’s a problem that doesn’t really have an easy answer.

Bottom line is it’s not healthy for homeless to be living in tents with no water, no restrooms, etc in public spaces like a park or on a street corner.

I’ve been a lot of places in the world. So many of them had no homeless people that were on the street or in parks. I’m glad I traveled a lot.

That's awesome, good for you. Homeless shelters are empty because drug addicts can't be there.

Didn’t Trump say previously that he was going to give them somewhere to go? Is he actually?  Kudos if so, but if anywhere I’m guessing it’s going to be Martha’s Vineyard or some other political stunt

They have these things called Homeless Shelters.

And they're half empty in the DC Metro Area. Again, drug addicts aren't allowed in.

Seattle you can google it. I saw it first hand in the public parks near my house and on streets in my hood. They cleared out these spaces where people had set up tons of tents and parked their RV’s after pandemic

These people move somewhere else, however. The problem is not cured. But having them live in tents in the middle of the park is definitely not the answer.

I think the line was they can go to shelters or jail.

I doubt there are enough shelters and jail also doesn’t seem a long term solution or legal.

I was in Seattle 20 years ago. Homeless everywhere, not confined to one location. Hard to believe they have yet to get a handle on it. Pretty sure they also give them free needles and other drug kits.  What comes first, the liberals or the homeless? Appears to be the former.

Oh why don’t you tell me what I saw 😂

Google Green Lake or Woodland Park encampments. Google RV removal Seattle. Google what the current policies are of the mayor.

Go ahead and think this issue is fixed because you saw some pics of tents moved 😂.

Where do you think these thousands of people go?

You can solve homelessness by telling them to move like in DC. It’s that easy!

I specifically asked YOU  to post local articles about it.  You don't want to.  Fine.  How's that CHOP zone looking nowadays?  🤣

I’m not your secretary 😂.

I told you what to google. You can do it. I have also told you what happened.

The CHOP area is full of bars and restaurants. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.
