Actually Congress voted for the aid. Trump held it up as long as he could, then tried to blackmail Zelenskyy. When a whistleblower turned him in Trump quickly released the aid but there’s every reason to believe that, had Trump not been caught, he never would have released it.

A deal that would include Ukraine having to give up some of the land it’s lost (NOT land it hasn’t lost) in exchange for a firm security guarantee (but which would not ever involve American boots on the ground) and a pledge to help rebuild Ukraine is still possible to achieve. So I’m kind of hopeful at this point. I know I’m always a sucker for talk but I like what I’ve heard. If a deal is actually reached that is honorable and Ukraine can accept, that will be tremendous news and I would be willing to give Trump most of the credit. Not that what I think matters to anyone but myself but I don’t particularly enjoy rooting against my President. I would frankly love to be able to say for the rest of my life regarding Trump “didn’t vote for him, didn’t like him, thought he was mostly a terrible President- but he DID achieve a peace in the Ukraine war and that was a tremendous accomplish and it’s a redeeming factor.” 
 

But we’ll see.

Well this part I don’t agree with you on. If Trump tries to pressure Zelenskyy into accepting a dishonorable deal, and then threatens to cut off aid or actually does it if Zelenskyy refuses, then no Trump would not deserve to be celebrated, he would deserve to be excoriated.
