Joe Mixon Out At least 4 Games

Recommended Posts

Mixon has yet to participate in training camp so this isn't much of a surprise. There's still no real clarity on his ankle injury...

That ain't good.  If they thought he had a shot in hell at getting back before 4 weeks, given their RB situation, they'd have burnt the roster spot on him.

I'm guessing we aren't seeing mixon for a lot longer than 4 weeks.

Think ya nailed it.  Dude showed up at OTA's in a walking boot - coach said "he'll be ready for training camp." He wasn't. Missed all of it along with pre-season. Now he's on the non-football injury list.  On top of everything - nobody knows exactly what the injury is. I've heard speculation it's likely broken bones... foot or ankle? Nobody knows.

Mixon was dragging down the stretch last year, but with the injury and latest news - he's un-draftable in my book. Just hope your opponents are eternal optimists, see the name, and waste a pick.

I picked him up in a league where we have 3 IR spots, but added Marks late.

I have this rule of thumb that for every day before a game the team tells you a player is out, that's at least a week added to his injury.  So if they say a guy is out on wednesday, that's at least a three week injury.  Thursday?  that's at least two weeks.  It's based on the fact that coaches love to lie about injuries and if they're willing to rule a guy out early and not make them a game time decision, the guy must be close to losing a limb or something.

Now this isn't the same scenario because they probably had to declare their NFI list by a deadline, but the fact that they are willing to shelve him for 4 weeks means it's at least 8 weeks.

Marks is the right one to stash.

I've heard scouts refer to Marks as - a Jack of all trades, master of none. Can catch, but not a dynamic receiver. Can run, but not very dominate.  He's just ok at everything. Even if that's true, he only has to beat out old-man Chubb and Pierce, so maybe he's got a shot.

I kind of wonder if Pierce isn't the one who surprises... the new coordinator (Caley) reportedly runs a man/gap scheme which Pierce did well in as a rookie.  The problem with Pierce has always been "he runs so mean" ... which also translates to "why not try to avoid getting tackled?"

In the end it might not matter who totes the rock. Take a gander at where the Texans o-line ranks this year.... I'll give ya hint - it's slightly higher than 33rd.

Thats actually what I have been reading  about Marks, I’m not interested in having any part of the Texans rb RBBC, but if I was, I would stash Marks, but you first need to be sure you can carry a rb tha might not do much.

And Mixon might return, looks like a troubled situation.

Dameon Pierce is the one to own in this backfield, for now at least. He had a good camp and the coaches all but said he's the next man up.

Chubb would have been cut already if not for Mixon's status.

Every report I have read about Chubb is how slow he looks, I think going Into the early half of the season Pierce is a good call, but once he starts running in mud again, Marks will get more work, and is already better in the passing game.

I've watched some Texans preseason and I think the rumors of chubb's demise have been greatly exaggerated.  Yeah, he's not beating anyone to a corner, but he's got plenty of juice between the tackles.

Drafted Woody in round 13 last night hoping he will be the pass catcher if nothing else. Then after the draft I put Mixon on IR and picked up Pierce.

this just reinforces that Mixon will be the guy once he gets healthy....   if you can get him as your RB3/4 you are laughing.  he will come back and get some decent points in time for the stretch run and fantasy playoffs.     He will help you at the right time and you wont need to pay a high draft pick to do it.

I drafted Marks late in our geek balls league draft last night, I think he has the most upside and we won't see Mixon before week 8

don't get me wrong, Marks doesn't look special or anything.

Easy call, Mixon when healthy is the best rb they have.

I cannot disagree.     When fully healthy it could be Chubb but he will never be fully healthy again I suspect

This is a big bump to Stroud and Collins.  I wouldn’t be surprised if Collins flirts with WR 1 overall.  He was on track last year before his injury.  Even on that pace he wouldn’t have likely eclipsed Chase’s final numbers, but Chase isn’t repeating last years totals.

Collins adp is wr6, so that’s flirting with wr#1.  So not really a stretch
