No even close.  Does Springsteen even have 1 good song?

This was discussed on WFAN and they were saying locally it is a NY vs NJ thing but nationally Bruce is a bigger artist. 👩‍🎨 <— Bruce

Apples and Oranges, different styles and type of music, don't think you can compare the two.

That said, I never saw Billy Joel live, but I caught Springsteen on The River tour here in L.A. at the Sports Arena in November of 1980, he played for about 4 hours and the show he put on would be difficult for anyone to top IMO.

I like them both but voted for the Boss.

Billy Joel will win because this is the GC and Bruce said mean things about Daddy.

I guess I don’t either. Bruce might put on a good show but he has a terrible voice.
I might like 2 songs tops

I saw Bruce and Billy (separate concerts) for the first time each within a year or so a few years ago.  Bruce I think was doing his first concert after a major injury?  Anyway, Bruce's performance was better.  He played a lot of his older stuff which is more what I like (that's a generally true statement for me and musicians).

But I never owned a Springsteen album.  I wore the cassettes for Joel's The Stranger and 52nd Street (and Songs in the Attic) to shreds.  Not seeing Joel in his prime is one of my musical regrets.

I was planning to start a thread on this, but since this one is here... a few weeks ago we watched he Billy Joel documentary "And So It Goes."  On HBO Max I think.  Anyway, it was absolutely phenomenal.

For me, it's Billy and it's not close.

Well, I would say it is a good Rock and Roll voice while Billy Joel is the classic pop crooner mold.

Admittedly he often sounds raspy, jagged and barely on key with many tunes but he did pretty well on "Hungry Heart" (with The Turtles "Flo and Eddie" doing the backing vocals).

It was (long) and phenomenal- it did show that it took awhile for Billy to get national recognition and needed to move to CA to get it.

I never saw Bruce (no regrets) and saw Billy many times although never during his MSG residency. Saw him and Elton at Yankee stadium in the 90’s. Great show.

Billy and it’s not even close.

my comment was more directed right at @TBayXXXVII cause of things he said previously. basically saying he didnt know a bunch of well known artists. did I remember that right tbay?

Bruce v Billy..I wouldn't put on either but they are both great with tons of great songs. I did actually watch one of Billys MSG shows. It was awesome. I think he just has more cringey songs like We didnt start the Fire, Uptown Girl, For the Longest time, etc. Rosalita, Spirit in the Night, Tenth avenue Freeze Out, Because the Night, Thunder Road..Bruce by a lot.

Bruce is the most overrated artist of all time. Slightly beating out Beyonce.

Weird reference / comparison

Exactly. They can't look beyond the politics to take a hard look at the music.

Springsteen is one of the greatest poets of our time; Joel is an incredible entertainer who has put out some remarkable music.

We recently watched a two-part documentary on Joel, and it's fantastic.

I really want to see Joel live. I've seen Springsteen five times, and it's hard to find a better live show. His energy never lets up from start to finish.

Bruce wrote one number one song, Blinded By the Light, and performed on another , We Are The World. I’ve seen Bruce more than all geeks combined, in Europe and Canada. But Billy has two of the greatest lines of all time: “You catholic girls start much too late” and “if he can’t drive with a broken back, at least he can polish the fenders”.  I’ll go with Bruce, but unfortunately he’s turned into a tds dementia ridden loon. Like DeNiro.

Sure is.  But how those two try to pass themselves off as now is absurd.

And on this board, only you and I know it. Also, Youngstown is better.

Why? Im talking about being overrated, not comparing their music.

I know what you are saying but I couldn’t say if she is overrated or not because I know none of her music - zero. All I know of her is she’s married to Jay Z.

There's truth to this. I like them both about the same and since the question is supposed to be about music alone, I would have wrestled with it quite a bit, but that didn't happen. The choice was made easy for this reason. Outside of music, Bruce is a sellout and can go fock himself.

In fairness he 'sells out' in both meanings of the word.

Correct, no one should ever use me as a meter for music.

Though, I am right here in that Billy is better than Bruce.

It's been known for a very long time that Billy Joel is no fan of Trump.

Not nearly to the same degree as Springsteen. Bruce has come up a few times on the forearm.

But Trump wrote angry tweets about Bruce, so MAGAs have to stick up for Daddy.
