I'm not a big fan of jewelry on me in general, but hey if that's what you like that what you like.

But on track athletes it's stupid.  They're wearing specially designed spandex speed suit leotards are whatever presumably because they want to cut down the thousandths of a second for wind resistance, but then you're going to wear a metal chain around your neck flopping around hitting your chin as you sprint?  Dumb.

If you're so worried about how you look, don't wear the spandex leotard.  The chain ain't overcoming that.

Clothes flapping in the wind is not the same as wearing a chain that weighs an ounce or two. 

Not sure if you were ever educated about things like this. But now you know.

I agree, and possibly even worse is the super long, thick braids and dreds.  At the highest level where a few .001s can be the difference between gold and no podium, it boggles my mind that people would wear any unnecessary weight.

On a related-ish topic, I can't believe that pitchers are allowed to wear big gold chains to flop around and distract the batter.

Ooooooh, let me make sure I get the most aerodynamic clothes possible so I don't get slowed down and then put on a chain and grow my hair out to the ground.

I wouldn't have even noticed if they didn't wear the stupid looking speed suits, but it's like, "why are you wearing the stupid looking suit for some 0.000001% speed bump, and then negating it with a bunch of stuff just for show?"

Although looking at the picture I see she has super long nails too. 

I think I get it now.  She's trying to get endorsements and looksism would prevent that if she didn't come with the image on top of the speed.

The problem with the endorsement theory is the 5th best sprinter in the country is just as obscure as the millionth beat sprinter, so unless you're winning, no need to worry too much about drip.

Pretty sure I saw a segment with Warner and Mooch trying to explain scramble drill with a group of kids out on a makeshift field/set.  A handful of these 12 year olds were wearing big ol chains.  

Its ridiculous.

swimmers shave their bodies and wear swim caps for a reason. How many have you seen wearing big chains in the pool? 

Olympic swimming doesn't generally have certain demographics, I guess. 

It does seem odd that a sprinter would want to wear a chain, or have long nails, or big hair, etc... but I'm guessing they might also want to wear different clothes and are just not allowed to. I am pretty sure there are regulations (both olympic and from their own national governing bodies) that limit them to a few choices when it comes to attire.

Any extra weight you wear on your body is going to slow you down, no matter how infintessimally. It's just simple biomechanics.

Not true. There is more that goes into it than biomechanics. They aren't machines.

I know they're not machines. They're living beings. That's why it's called biomechanics.

Basically, anything you wear other than track shoes and an aerodynamic track suit will slow you down.

You know what else is dumb in the NFL? Players are strapping mouth guards to their face mask, but not actually using the mouth guard. It just dangles there while they're playing. In the Pats-Browns game last weekend, there was a Browns player with TWO mouthguards strapped to his face mask. Focking dooosh, you look like a focking clown.

If it was up to me, players have two choices: use the mouth guard, or don't have one at all.
