vuduchile 1,941 Posted November 25, 2018 I have the Kobalt 80v blower and 40v polesaw. Cheap tools have a purpose and even the cheap power tools seem to last a long time. Not everything in life needs to be a yeti. Ive gone through a couple of cheap Masterforce multi tools, so Id like to get a better one that I wont have to replace for awhile. Those blades are a too. They all wear out quickly and arent cheap. Ill probably get the cordless Dewalt.
Djgb13 2,338 Posted November 25, 2018 9 and 11. My wife and kids dont believe me when I tell them my friends and I built a three story tree house from scrap lumber when we were their age. And we did it all with hammers, nails and a couple hand saws. That third level wasnt all that stable, and was more of a deck since it had no walls. We only went up there if we were feeling brave and there was no wind. Well dam. And here I only built a 2 story house when I was 9 with just some sticks and gum. Biggest pain in the ass having to manually saw the tree limbs.

I got a Greenworks 80V blower a few years ago, best investment I made. Corded blowers can suck my shlong, what a pain if you have a decent sized yard. Followed it up with their 80V chainsaw. Both are quite powerful, highly recommend.
Electric Mayhem 35 Posted November 26, 2018 4 times a year using it? Cheap, but get good accessories (blades, bits etc). Contractor. Expensive sh!t. I have rigid battery powered stuff, it's been fine for me. Craigslist for the corded stuff The contractor that was working on my house a while basically said this as well. The saw blades make the difference on a saw, not the saw. He would spend $100+ on a good blade and have it sharpened. As for brand uniformity, I think that's only an issue for cordless so you have a compatible battery across tools. I don't think you need to be brand loyal, especially if one company makes a better "x" but not all. I have (won actually) a DeWalt cordless drill that is fantastic, as well as a recip saw that was inexpensive and did the job well. Other tools that I know I will only use on occasion I get from Harbor Freight and they have been perfectly fine. I think the advice to get a good table saw (esp blade(s)) would be a great gift. Cloaca du jour 2,064 Posted November 27, 2018 I bought a 20 dollar 18v cordless drill for my basement from Harbor Freighy. Damn thing works but sparks like a laser light show inside hahahahahha.
parrot 789 Posted November 27, 2018 Got a little bit of about everything Shop tools; Table Saw - Dewalt Miter Saw - Bosch Drill press - Craftsman Band Saw - Craftsman Scroll Saw - Craftsman Router table + router - Craftsman Compressor - Porter Cable Bench planer - Delta Bench disc/belt sander - Delta Bench grinder - Delta Hand tools; Plunge router - Porter Cable Brad/Stapler guns - Porter Cable Skilsaw - Craftsman Framing nailer - Bostitch Roofing nailer - Rigid Recip saw - Milwaukee Hand drill - Milwaukee Jig saw- Black and Decker Cordless drills/Impact - Makita/Milawukee Hand grinders - Dewalt Sanders - various. A lot of these were accumulated in my younger (poorer) years. If I were buying more of them today I probably wouldn't have as much Craftsman and would have more Dewalt/Makita/Milwaukee stuff, but the Craftsman stuff has actually been fine for the most part for what I use it for (especially stuff like the band saw that is used pretty rarely). The Bosch miter saw is one tool I would really like to replace but I just can't get it to die. Harbor Freight is great for stuff like clamps. I have a buddy who has at least a grand in Bessey clamps hanging in his shop. My Harbor Freight clamps clamp just the same.
Filthy Fernadez 2,696 Posted January 2, 2019 I returned my DeWalt Brushless stuff. The kit (drill, driver, multi-tool) came with 2 1.3 mah batteries. A few minutes using the multi-tool with them drained them. Fock that..........I'll stick with my Ryobi 18v Lithium Ion set. Now I'm going to use the money saved to buy a Kreg Jig kit.
