I mean, c'mon, it was fairly obvious to anyone who was watching his last few games that Carr was dealing with something more significant than a dislocated pinkie finger - so to insist otherwise was basically an insult to viewers and fans. Anyway, this pisses me off: Derek Carr admitted he didn’t just dislocate his pinkie finger in Week 12, but also broke it. I try to think from their perspective, and so why would I want to provide any more than the minimum about what is going on physically with my players? Perhaps because disclosing specific information about a players' injury allows the opponents to specifically target that region of the body or to game plan accordingly? It's why teams say "lower leg" injury as opposed to "ankle" or "foot" or "hamstring". All three are located at very different spots on the spectrum of how a player could or couldn't perform on game day. The injury information is out there. It's available every week. Beat writers are constantly tweeting and writing about injuries/practice participation. While disseminating the information can be tedious at times, it's one of the few remaining aspects of research that can give studious teams the advantage when it comes to start/sit decisions or even streaming players. All teams have to claim is that if you disclose a player's specific injury it leaves them exposed to even more damage because the opposition knows exactly where to attack them to demobilize them, which could hurt the even more. Thus, you're putting fantasy football over player's safety/privacy, and even the league isn't going to win that argument with the teams. Plus, fantasy football is a big part of the popularity of the sport, but it's not like we have leverage as consumers, and the league know that. Most of us are die hard and have been for a long time so the league knows we're not going anywhere. It's not like there's a rival league we can go to to get our fantasy football fix, and they know we're not going to just hop to basketball or hockey to get our fantasy fix. They really have a monopoly on the fantasy sports market, so when you have a monopoly and you know it, you actually have less incentive to cave to consumer pressure.
