The baseball draft is a crap shoot. Much more difficult to tell how a player will pan out. Take a look at the number 15 player taken over the past 10 drafts. I doubt you find anyone any good and most probably just play a few games in the majors.

Did you give up on the Red Sox during their 85 years of futility? How about the Patriots?

Once again, edger doesn't know what the fock he's talking about.

Cuddyer is the 2013 NL batting champ. He took a pay CUT to leave the Rockies for the Mets.

His obp is always solid, he has 20 HR power (even in Metco), has one of the best arms in the game for RF, even swipes a few bags, and is the ultimate clubhouse guy.

The Mets desperately needed to add bats this offseason (with little payroll available - perhaps you heard of the Madoff robbery), and Cuddyer was about the best bang for your buck free agent out there.

Further, as has been pointed out, mlb 1st rounders rarely pan out.

Stop posting about a sport you know nothing about.

He doesn't know anything about movies or music either and that doesn't stop him. He should stick to posting about golf. No one gives a fock about it.

Jacob de Grom was a deep pick in the draft.

Just a few guys selected with the 15th overall pick in the MLB entry draft

Wouldn't want any of those guys, right? :first:

2004 1 FrRnd 15 Diamondbacks Stephen Drew
2002 1 FrRnd 15 Mets Scott Kazmir
2000 1 FrRnd 15 Phillies Chase Utley
1988 1 FrRnd 15 *Royce Clayton

Defeat from the jaws of victory.

Not sure victory was ever in play here.

Ed proved that the Mets got a top 50 player instantly instead of a 14% chance of cultivating a similar player.

I believe the fallacy for edjr (as usual) is post hoc ergo propter hoc

baseball draft is a total crapshoot. Many players drafted are still in high school.

top 50? is that what we are looking to sign in free agency now, when we give away our 1st round pick?

Michael Cuddyer’s signing with Mets shocks sports world

http://blogs.denverpost.com/rockies/2014/11/10/michael-cuddyers-signing-mets-shocks-sports-world/19107/

Michael Cuddyer turned down a $15.3 million qualifying offer from the Rockies to sign a two-year deal with the New York Mets on Monday. The move landed the Rockies a first-round draft pick in 2015 and Cuddyer a hefty raise.
But it also left the sports world baffled.
Rockies owner D1ck Monfort said last season that he “would like to figure out a way to keep” Cuddyer this season, and it was known in and out of the clubhouse that manager Walt Weiss was a big fan of the 36-year-old outfielder.
“I’d love to have Cuddy back,” Weiss said near season’s end. “He’s a dream for a manager because he sets the standard high. … The leadership — some people may think that’s overrated, or you think it’s overrated until you don’t have it. Then you learn how valuable it is.”
In Cuddyer, the Mets gain a right fielder that may push Curtis Granderson to the other side of Citi Field:

I'm not making a value judgment on him as a player, just pointing out how ridiculous your reasoning always is. We can generally just discount everything you say, you realize that?

"Baffled", as in everyone thought the Rockies would keep him, then they trade him for a lowly draft pick. Money move.

When did baseball first round picks turn into the same value as football and basketball first round picks? :dunno:

who said they did? :dunno:

Cheatriots don't seem to mind giving them away

So, 4 players picked at number 15 in the past 27 years turned out to be better than Cuddyer. That means that there is an 86% chance that the Mets signing turns out a win in the player exchange portion.

WOW, just WOW :wall:

they signed him for 2 FOCKING years. He has a history of being hurt and he's not that good!

If you hit on a player in the draft you get him for what? minimum of 6 pro years before he can become a free agent? You can even trade a prospect for another player.

holy fock you people just aren't baseball savvy. :(

Not even close to as embarassing the fact that they're paying Bobby Bonilla $1.2 million a year :music_guitarred:

Beginning on July 1, 2011, the Mets will pay former player Bobby Bonilla $1.19 million a year for 25 years as part of a buyout of the $5.9 million the team owed him in 2000.
