Supreme Court rules in favor of sports betting

14 May 2018 - 08:28 AM

ESPN

The Supreme Court struck down a federal law prohibiting sports gambling Monday, giving the states a go-ahead to allow betting on sports.

The majority opinion of the court...

The legalization of sports gambling requires an important policy choice, but the choice is not ours to make. Congress can regulate sports gambling directly, but if it elects not to do so, each State is free to act on its own. Our job is to interpret the law Congress has enacted and decide whether it is consistent with the Constitution. PASPA is not. PASPA “regulate[s] state governments’ regulation” of their citizens. …. The Constitution gives Congress no such power. The judgment of the Third Circuit is reversed.

We've been expecting this decision for months and now it's official. Looks like Draftkings is ready to pounce and will be entering the sports betting market.

In anticipation of a favorable ruling by the Court, DraftKings has been preparing since 2017 to launch a sports betting platform for mobile, providing another advantage for the company. DraftKings is working with state regulatory officials to apply for operating licenses in those states that have already passed legislation authoring sports betting.

From Ian Rapoport...

Notes on how @NFL will react to the sports gambling news: 1. Maintaining integrity of the game is the highest’s priority. 2. It won’t rush into the biggest pot of dollars. Will slow-play this & think long-term. 3. The direct dollars will come from licensing, logos, videos & data.

ESPN

New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram has been suspended for the first four games of the 2018 season for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances, the NFL announced Tuesday.

The Saints have Jonathan Williams and rookie Boston on roster that could potentially soak up some Ingram touches during the first four weeks.

Dynasty Rankings - Update

08 May 2018 - 10:21 AM

Now that we're post- NFL draft, Doug has updated his dynasty rankings ... and somebody's in love with Saquon Barkley.

Top 40 QBs, 80 RBs, 80 WRs, 40 TEs.

We'll do another update in August.

Panthers sign C.J. Anderson

07 May 2018 - 02:25 PM

Replacement for Jonathan Stewart (NYG). Probably the best outcome for Anderson's fantasy value at this point in the off-season, but McCaffrey remains the back to own in Carolina.
